I have a puzzle. At first glance, this woman died twice <g>. I'm having a really hard time explaining the death records, and am hoping for enlightenment.... On 8 May 1862, Mary Laurance (mn Fish,) married, died in Falmouth age 72y5m19d of derangement, born Falmouth to Rufus & Jane Fish both born Falmouth. On 9 Oct 1873, Polly (Fish) Greene, widow, age 83y10m20d, died Falmouth of Paralysis, born Falmouth to Rufus & Jane (dec.) The VRs for Rufus & Jane (Davis) Fish are pretty clear. They had a daughter (amongst others) named Polly born 19 Nov 1789 in Falmouth. She only had sisters Thankful, and Betsey, both of whose marriages and deaths I have found. FVRs marriages has this which shows both variations of the name: Fish, Polly (Mary, int.) and Ephraim Lawrance (Lawrence int.), 21 Dec 1813 I find no Green(e) to Fish marriage in Falmouth or Sandwich or Barnstable VRs. I find no Polly/Mary Green(e) in the 1870 census in Barnstable Co. I do find the record of Ephraim Laurence's death: "Falmouth, 28 Feb 1879, Ephraim Laurence, widower, age 91y8m11d, d. Falmouth of old age, carpenter, b. Falmouth to Solomon & Mary both deceased and both born Falmouth. " He's a widower, so not likely that Mary/Polly remarried a Mr. Greene, and I do find Ephraim in the 1870 census with no wife, living with his son in Falmouth, so he pretty clearly was the husband of Mary who died in 1862. Does anyone have a batch of Green(s) in their database that could check to see if there is a rogue female named Mary or Polly born about 1789 who married into the family? This isn't crucial to my research, as Rufus Fish is a brother on my line, but it does make me very curious! Anyone have any ideas about the identity/misidentity of Polly who died in 1873? Cheers, Bobbie Hall Chicago
