    3. Dear Clay, I don't have all the census enumerations you asked for, but I did find a few. As Dale Cook pointed out, the earlier census reports only show head of household, and do not include ages or names of those living within that household. It would appear that your John Gorham, wife Thankful, and son William (b 1788) all remained on Nantucket. I see no sign of them in Norwalk, Fairfield, CT. I don't find anything definitive until 1820, where several Gorhams appear as Heads of Household on Nantucket: 1820 > MASSACHUSETTS > NANTUCKET > NANTUCKET Series: M33 Roll: 52 Page: 34 Davis 2nd Gorham Josiah Gorham John Gorham Thankful Gorham Wm Gorham 1820 > MASSACHUSETTS > NANTUCKET > NANTUCKET Series: M33 Roll: 52 Page: 35 Nath'l Gorham James Gorham In the 1860 census (enumerated 1 June), your William Gorham, Tamar and possibly son Francis Gorham are residents of the Alms House on Nantucket and appear thusly: > 1860 > MASSACHUSETTS > NANTUCKET > NANTUCKET > Series: M653 Roll: 513 Page: 633 > The Alms House > William Gorham, age 72, b MA > Tamar Gorham, age 71, b MA > Francis Gorham, age 37?, b MA George R. 3. To answer the Rev. Joel Keith's request for information on Josiah Chase of Yarmouth........ <<<<<Could someone who has the VR book (or other sources)for Yarmouth please lookup the following individual for me? Josiah CHASE/CHACE b. abt. 1786, Yarmouth, MA son of Micajah/Micaiah CHASE/CHACE & Hannah SHOVE. They were a Quaker family. Josiah m. Charity TILLY in Douglas, Worcester Co., MA on 29 Feb 1816.>>>>> According to Chase records from "Some of the Descendants of William Chase of Roxbury and Yarmouth, Mass.", your Josiah Chase was born to Micajah Chase (and Hannah Shove) "of Swansea" (Massachusetts). He was not born in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Cape Cod. Most of the Quaker Chases were descended from those who had left the Cape early on and settled in the Swansea area. They later became "Chaces". The same reference calls Josiah "of Coventry, RI", and says he m. (no location given) 29 Feb 1816, Charity FULLER. There are no birth dates given for Josiah or his siblings Lydia, Mercy and Nathaniel. (Lydia m. in Swansea, Mercy d. unmarried, and Nathaniel is called "of Uxbridge" [relatively close to Douglas, MA where Josiah is said to have married].) Swansea VRs say that "Micajah Chase of Swanzey and Hannah Shove of Dighton was married at Swanzey September ye 9:1779 by me Levi Wheeton Justice of peace in Swanzey". Swansea is in Bristol County, Massachusetts. Judy Chace Needham

    3. I have a Harding problem with a theory, but no good data. Perhaps you can help. A Susanna Harding married William Brown 27 Oct. 1699 <MD 8:243>. She may have been the widow of John Harding of Eastham, who died 14 June 1697, leaving widow Susanna. <MD 32:81>. Their second child Lydia b. 30 Apr. 1702 may have been the Lydia Harding who married Simon4 Newcomb in 1722. This John would probably be of the fourth generation in your listing, and given the patriarch's name, there may have been several Johns by that time. If your books/records etc have any clue to the ancestry of this John and of his wife Susanna, I'd appreciate hearing about it (with citations where possible). Could someone who has the VR book (or other sources)for Yarmouth please lookup the following individual for me? Thank you very much.
