Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0EB.2ACE/449.1 Message Board Post: The index to the NEHGS MA VR to 1910 database lists a William C. Howe's death record in the Provincetown records of 1864. There should be an image of the page with such details as were recorded, but either he's there, but I can't find him on the page that comes up, or once again the page is not linked correctly. The page number on the image that comes up is not readable, so I can't be sure if this is the correct page, but the index says the record is in volume 174, page 16. The books are at the Massachusetts archives and they record reports sent in by the town clerks. Probably you could contact the Provincetown clerk and get the record more quickly than from the MA archives at a somewhat higher cost. The town has not only a clerk, but a genealogist whom you might want to make your first stop. Contact information for both can be found here http://www.provincetowngov.org/official/dirtck.html

    1. Samuel Chadwick
    2. Bobbie Hall
    3. Mary, I have a possible lead for you; I'm also a Chadwick descendant and have been researching the early Chadwicks of Barnstable County. John Chadwick (1601-1681) and his wife Joan (--?--) (c1615-1674) were both born in England, and married probably before 1645. He is supposed to have arrived in Gov. Winthrop's fleet in 1630. They had several children born in Malden, Middlesex Co., (Mass Bay Colony): a daughter b. say 1646 (mentioned as married at the time of her father's will in 1680) John b. before 1648, d. in infancy in 1651 Elizabeth b. 1648 d. ? married Gershom Hills in Malden 1667 Sarah b. 1650 d. ? married Thomas Grover in Malden 1668 John b. 1651 d. 1707 in Bradford, MA married Mary Barlow in Cambridge in 1674 James b. 1653 d. ? married Hannah Butler in Malden in 1677 Samuel b. 1657 d. 1690 in Reading, married Mary Stocker in Reading in 1684 Hannah b. say 1660. (mentioned in 1680 in her father's will, unmarried in 1680) John's will: 1st Day 10th month 1680, I John Chadwick senior of Malden... my will is that my two sons John and James shall have two thirds parts of all my land and that they shall have their shares on that side which is next to their own land. My son Samuel shall have the other third part to the Eastward with the house and orchyard. James and Samuel shall each of them pay five pounds unto my son John. In case any one of the said sons should die leaving no issue, the land of his share shall be equally divided between the two sons that are surviving. I give unto my daughter Hannah all my cattle, bedding brass, iron and pewter, in a word all my moveables both within doors and without. After debts and funeral & sickness expenses are discharged out of the profits or income of my land orchyand and house that the whole profit of all my land orchard and house shall be .. said daughter for the space of four years. But in case she should decease and have no issue surviving then my will ... all that remans of her portion shall be equally divided between my three sons John, James and Samuel. more over I bequeath unto my three daughters that are already married by way of legacy ten shillings apiece to be paid by my executor. I constitute my son John for my executor and I make ensig Thomas Lynde and Thomas Skinner the overseers of this my will. witnesses ?? Jenkins & Samuel ??? The son James is probably a good candidate for you. James' son Joseph was married in Falmouth in 1709. James' daughter Jemima probably is the Jemima Chadwick who married in Falmouth in 1712. James had a son Benjamin, and a Benjamin married in Falmouth in 1722. I suspect that James may have removed to Falmouth himself as his last child's birth was recorded in Malden in 1691. I see no other mention of him there. Did he move with his children to Falmouth? Did he have Samuel there after 1691? James had a brother Samuel (married to Mary Stocker) who died in Reading, Middlesex Co., MA on 26 Feb 1689/90. Perhaps James named his next son after this recently deceased brother? There is an Ebenezer Chadwick living in Falmouth in the 1720's, who's parents are also unknown. Another possible later child of James? Ebenezer was probably born around 1700, as he was married in 1727 and his wife gave birth to her last child in 1746, so she was possibly born about 1700. Another 'spare' Chadwick in Falmouth is mentioned in the Sandwich VRs: "The Marriage between Joseph Laurance of Sandwich and Hannah Chaddack of falmouth solemnized before Shearjashub Bourne Esqr Justice of Peace the 25th day of January 1699/700 ." Could this be Hannah, the daughter of John & Joan who was unmarried in 1680 in his will? Or could she be one of his granddaughters? She had one son, in 1703, that I know of... named: Samuel, but of course he was Samuel Lawrence. The only (tenuous) evidence I have is that in 1701 the Falmouth town records have this: "The marck that James Chadwick give to his cretuers is a mackrills Taill one the Right eare, Record in the yere 1701." This suggests that perhaps James was resident in Falmouth by 1701. But there are no birth or death records in Falmouth for Chadwicks that are early enough to cover these folks... Hope this gives you some ideas to follow. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0EB.2ACE/449 Message Board Post: I am looking for William C, Howe of Provincetown. He is listed in the 1850 census in P-town with his second wife, Betsey Atwood Baker Howe and his daughters, Zilla, Asenath and Jane. Asenath is my ggg-grandmother, she married Eldad Hopkins and stayed in the area for the rest of her life. Zilla spent her adult life in Alms Houses in Provincetown. He drops off the map after 1850. Its probable that he wasnt born in Ptown but I have no idea of his whereabouts before 1832 or after 1850. Can anyone help me? Any lead would be greatly appreciated.

    1. 5 themes of Geography?
    2. Ray
    3. My daughter is taking geography and I was struck by the 5 themes of geography! I think they could easily be re-titled the 5 themes of genealogy- 1. Location - where is it? Absolute vs Relative location. How far is it from something else? I think of these questions especially as I watch the migration patterns of my ancestors from Cape Cod to southern and western Mass. 2.Place - what is it like? Physical characteristics, cultural characteristics, people, language, clothing, buildings, music, religion, climate, land shape, plants and animal life 3. Human / Environment Interaction - People can change their environment to meet their needs. (I notice this in photographs of Cape Cod in the middle 1850s. There are no trees in sight. They were all used to build and heat houses and for transportation needs.) build roads, availability of water 4. Movement - People, ideas, information and products move from one place to another by post, telephone, computer, satellite, car, train, boat 5. Region - areas that share common characteristics or features (nothing is more identifiable than New England - CT, MA, RI, ME, NH, VT) landscape, climate, language, political boundaries, religion. Areas can be small - neighborhoods (villages), city, country or large -- several countries like North America

    1. Charles W. Dimmock, Elijah L. Dimmock
    2. Judy Meredith
    3. Hi, I'm new to the list and am hoping someone can help. My great great grandfather was Charles Wellington DIMMOCK, b: 25 Mar 1818 in or near Barnstable, d: 9 Jul 1868 in Edwardsville, IL. I can't find his parents. He worked with his uncle, Elijah Lewis DIMMOCK in a shoe store in Alton, IL for several years. Elijah b: 15 Sept 1802, Barnstable, d: 4 Jan 1887 in Alton, IL. Elijah was a son of Charles DIMMOCK and Deborah LEWIS (or possibly DAVIS). I'm assuming, since Elijah was C.W.'s uncle, one of Elijah's siblings was C.W.'s father. One candidate is John DIMMOCK, but I've found nothing much about him, either. If anyone has any information that can shed light on this family, I'd be much obliged! Thanks! Judy Meredith

I think he just left his family and he may be the man I find in the 1860 and 1870 census of Harwich and Eastham. I just need to "prove it". I am heading to CT mid April, hoping to find something there. Good luck on your search. I truly understand the frustration. I have been searching for this guy for 8 years and I am not getting any younger. At the rate of the progress I am making, I may end up meeting him in heaven! Carol

Unfortunately she does not have death date for Albert either. I have the same mystery. These "sailors" just seem to disappear and leave the families. Unfortunate but I guess it happens. I did a run on "Albert Wixon" thinking perhaps he went back to his own name and there were many but none that I saw with births in MA. One never knows why a person just "leaves" but like I said it happens. It happened to my cousin in the late 40's also. One day her husband just was gone and took her only car with and left her with a child. I wish you the best of luck in finding your grgrgrgrandfather's demise. Sincerely Carol

Surnames: Wixon, Berry, Studley, Kelley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0EB.2ACE/446 Message Board Post: Looking for any info on my great-great grandfather Albert Morris Berry. He was born Nov 11, 1858 as Albert Morris Wixon son of Albert H. Wixon and Mary Abby Kelley. Believe he was born in Harwich or Dennis. By age 2 he lived with the James Berry family. By 1880 census he was going by Albert M.Berry. I know he was a mariner and he married Elizabeth Studley daughter of Matthew and Sally K. (Baker)Studley of Dennis. Albert and Elizabeth had 3 daughters: Lizzie born 1882, Martha born 1884 and Elsie Berry born 1886. No record of him after 1886. I've checked records at Dennis town hall but cannot find a death date so far. His wife remarried by 1890's. Any help on this mystery would be so helpful. Thanks,Meghan
