    3. Thanks for the several responses. I'd been assuming that there were 2 Desire Grays (marrying Southworth and Baker)and perhaps 2 Nathaniel Bakers (marrying Desire and Mary.) My list of the Baker children was from a very careless reading of Dale Cook's earlier VR post, so please ignore it.

    3. Is there a list of the 50 families from the Cape Cod area that went & formed/settled Barrington, Novia Scotia in 1765? I have a dead end with a John HOUSE(HOWES?) born @ August 6, 1747. He married Lydia DAGGETT from Edgartown and then died in Nantucket August 1816. The Barney papers just say he was "Of New Foundland". When my research found the "50 families", I was curious if he could have been originally from this area. Thanks, Michelle

    3. I must admit this was one of the best discussions I’ve seen in sometime. Also very true just seeing 90 or so people stating an item on Roots Web does not make it fact noir does someone writing it in a book either. How many times has it been stated that John Rider son of Samuel and Anne Rider married to his daughter-in-law Esther (Hester) Hall or that he was born in Plymouth. Even his will states England. The new “Hawes” book has Hannah Hawes (daughter of James and Rebecca Russell Hawes) married to John Curtis when he is “John Custis” born VA and people wonder why they can not find the parents of Betsy “Custis” who married Luther Howland or Deborah “Custis” daughter of Henry “Custis”, who is the son of “John and Hannah Hawes Custis.” John did not always close his “S” noir did half of the town clerks or so it seems yet just look at his burial record in the Ancient Yarmouth Cem. 1810 his daughter is listed right below his. Thank all for the information on a Southworth which maybe a relative of my Elizabeth Southworth. Last item Hannah Hawes (daughter of Ebenezer and Temperance Taylor Hawes) also married John’s brother Thomas “Custis” from VA. Wanda -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. In the Register, January 1867, 20:61-65 is an article on the Peirce family by Ebenezer W. Peirce. He references the 3 June 1673 court appearance of Abraham jr and identifies children and spouses as: Abraham, born Plymouth, January 1638, married Hannah Glass of Duxbury, October 29, 1695, and he died in January, 1718, aged 80 years. (NEHGR 18:285 (Marriages At Scituate, Mass., Prior To 1700 - Abraham Pierce and Hannah Glass, of Duxbury, 29 Oct., 1695.) Later in the article Peirce states that Hannah must be the 2nd wife. Not sure why Anderson says possibly Hannah Glass unless he's hedging in case Glass was her previous husband's name. Ah...the Scituate VR says Pierce, Abraham and Hannah _______ of Marshfield, Oct 29, 1695. Rebecca, married _________ Willis, died March 30, 1724. (Mansfield Records) I have Bristol Co VRs but couldn't find a reference to her death. Mary, married ______ Baker. Alice, born in or about 1650, married ________ Baker, and she died in 1673, aged about 23 yrs. (Church records and Town Records) Isaac, born in 1661, married Alice ________, and he died in Middleborough, now Lakeville, Feb. 28, 1732, aged about 71 years. (Middleborough Town Records) (MD5:38 says d. 28 Feb 1731/2 in 71st year of age) It's not clear to me how Anderson gets from the 1673 PCR 5:116-17 to identifying the two Baker spouses as children of Francis and Isabel Baker. The third Baker sibling, Hannah, is identified in Francis Baker's will as Hannah Pearce (MD 31:107). 3. Hi Chris, I was starting to go through sources for Nathaniel Baker and Desire Gray, when your note arrived. You cited the facts so well, little more needs be said. Those who claim Desire Gray married Nathaniel Baker instead of Southworth need to come up with an acceptable source. For curiosity, I searched the Rootsweb World Connect files for Nathaniel Baker and Desire. Some 77 files are found. Of these, 18 cite a source. No one source that relates to the marriage is in any way acceptable or useable. Thanks for your succinct and well put summary and citations. Bob Bob & Dee Carroll. 3. I descend from Nathaniel BAKER, 27 January 1641/42, son of Francis and Isabel, and have always been confused about his spouse/spouses as I've read conflicting information. I've seen his wife given by other researchers as Desire GRAY, dau of Edward, which I question. According to Mayflower Families Silver Book on Chilton and More, this Desire GRAY was b. Plymouth 6 Nov 1651, m. Nathaniel SOUTHWORTH 10 Jan 1671/2. She d. Plymouth 4 Dec 1690, ae 39, referred to in her death record as Desire, wife of Nathaniel SOUTHWORTH. She had children with N. SOUTHWORTH born 1674 to 1688/89. So in my opinion this particular Desire couldn't have been a wife of Nathaniel Baker. I have also seen his wife as Mary, possibly PIERCE. Torrey's New England Marriages: Nathaniel BAKER, b. 1642, d. 1691, married Mary (PIERCE?) who died in 1691, birth of first child 1670, lived in Yarmouth. From Library of Cape Cod History and Genealogy, "The BAKER Family of Yarmouth, Descendants of Francis," No. 73, CW Swift Publisher, Yarmouthport, MA, 1912: Nathaniel was born 27 March 1642. He married _____. He and his wife died Dec. 1691. Children: Samuel, Nathaniel, Silas. I haven't seen children Bethya and Sara attached to him. His estate settlement mentions son Samuel by name and children are referred to as his "oldest son" and "other two sons." No daughters mentioned. In Anderson's The Great Migration Begins...Vol 3, the sketch of Abraham PIERCE says daughter Mary was born about 1645 and married Nathaniel BAKER about 1670. Marriage based on evidence that their son Samuel in YVR was cited as "4 years old the 29th of October 1674." So seems to me that Nathaniel BAKER, son of Francis, married Mary PIERCE. But where did the Desire GRAY come from and am I missing something?! Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this, Chris Chirokas -----Original Message----- From: David Kew [mailto:david.kew@verizon.net] Sent: Saturday, April 29, 2006 11:43 AM To: MABARNST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BarnstableCoMA] Nathaniel Bakers The recent posts about the multiple Nathaniel Bakers spurred me to look at my links again, and I have questions about the previous generation. 3. >> Can someone clarify who was the wife of Nathaniel Baker >> of Yarmouth, b. 1672 Yarmouth? Some sources say Mercy >> Lewis/Lewes, some say Elizabeth? I think there are two Nathaniel Bakers being confused here. According to Amos Otis (Barnstable Familes 1:60), one Nathaniel Baker, brother of Rev Nicholas Baker, settled in Barnstable. His first wife, by whom he had nine children, is unknown. He married 2nd, 5 Jan 1718/19 Mercy Lewes, Widow of Shubael Lewes. The widow Mercy Lewes is Mercy Lumbard, dau of Joshua Lumbard (Barnstable Fam 2:127-8). The second Nathaniel Baker b. Yarmouth 29 Jan 1672 is the son of Nathaniel and Desire (Gray) Baker and grandson of Francis and Isabel (Twining) Baker. The Yarmouth Nathaniel Baker m. 8 Nov 1705 Elizabeth Baker, dau of Daniel and Elizabeth (Chase) Baker per the Mass. and Maine Genealogies CD containing a History of the Francis Baker Family of Yarmouth and confirmed by Yarmouth VRs published by Robert M. and Ruth W. Sherman p. 136. The first child of Nathaniel and Elizabeth, Lydia, b. Yarmouth 28 Feb 1706, married 21 Jun 1737 Joseph4 (Jonathan3, Peregrine2, William1) White. If someone has Vol 13 of Mayflower Familes, they could confirm Elizabeth (Baker) Baker as the mother.

After some creative searching I also found second wife Jerusha and she died of Cholera. Thanks for the tip that lead to many new discoveries!!
