Death: 1 Apr 1793 Mendon, Ma. Marriage: 8 Apr 1779 Mendon, Ma. Father: Isaac BATES (b 3 Mar 1707/8) Mother: Martha CLARK (b 1704) This explains the two children named Clark and Isaac who were born to Joseph BATES and wife Sarah. Also, I checked Cohasset records and found that Joseph BATES had a brother Mical (yet another spelling!) BATES b. 6 Apr 1753 which explains his having a son Michael/Micah. Also, as Alice said, Joseph was b. in Cohasset. However, my source gives the baptism date rather than the birth date -- 30 Sept 1733. (Source: FTM CD #220, MA VRs 1600s-1800s) I also found Joseph BATES and Mrs. Sarah HAYWARD were m. in Medway, 25 Nov 1762. So the one in Bellingham may have been an intention. (Source: FTM CD #231, Marriage Index, MA 1633-1850) I'll keep poking around to see what else I can find and post an update tomorrow. Sue Susan M.
