Helen, Sarah BUTTERWORTH who married William HAYWARD was a sister of your Mercy (BUTTERWORTH) BLOOD. The relationship is shown in the division of their father's estate. "Div. of remainder of Est. of Deacon JOHN BUTTERWORTH, dtd. 2 Apr. 1711. To John Butterworth eldest son 2 shares; to Joseph Butterworth 1 share; to heirs of Benjamin Butterworth dcd. 1 share; to heirs of Sarah Howard dcd. 1 share; to heirs of Deborah Jenkins dcd. 1 share; and 1 share each to Mercy Blood, Hopstill Edy wife of John Edy & Mary Thayer wife of Samuel Thayer [3:42]." [H. L. Peter Rounds, C.G., Abstracts of Bristol County, Massachusetts, Probate Records, 1687-1745 (Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc.; Baltimore, MD; 1988), p. 51] Note that the name HAYWARD was usually spelled HOWARD in the early Rehoboth records. Deacon John Butterworth and Sarah Freeman had 10 children. The second daughter Sarah b. 28 May 1653 married my ancestor William 2 Hayward in 1671 in Rehoboth, Bristol, Ma. If Mercy born in 1664 is the same one she would be the sister of Sarah Butterworth Hayward. Is it a match? Helen
Actually I should have said William is the son of William 1 Hayward and Margery Knight Hayward and then it would be clearer. (I know there are more William's back in time in England but I have never had proof of them,) I have proved all of my data back to William 1 with vital records and written history of my Hayward family. My grandmother was a Hayward. Helen
