Elfring, Registrar; e-mail: [email protected] Last November we attended Thanksgiving Dinner at Plimoth Plantation. What a treat. We really enjoyed our three days in spite of the cold weather. While there we visited the home of Jabez Howland. The hosts and hostesses were so accommodating and ever so friendly. Made us feel at home and shared lots of interesting facts. To make a long story short... my daughter in CA asked about becoming a member. Since I am a member of Society of Mayflower Descendants through Myles Standish on my paternal side, thought it would be nice to join John Howland Society on my maternal side. At that time we thought this was our only Mayflower lineage. We now know through our DAY line we have another Myles Standish line on our maternal side. Little background on the John Howland Society, which I'm sure you know is not the same as becoming a member of the Society of Mayflower descendants, - This Howland Society celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1997. To quote from their literature: " The objective of the society is to perpetuate the memory of our ancestors, John Howland and his wife, Elizabeth Tilly Howland; to preserve and publish manuscripts relating to the John Howland family; to erect and keep in good repair a memorial to their memory in the Pilgrim Church at Plymouth; to assist in pursuing research in England and Holland to discover their ancestors; to retain possession of and keep in good condition the properties known as the "Howland House" at Plymouth, Mass., and the Howland homesites at rocky Nook, Kingston, Mass."
