I have copies of a few Quaker marriages from the Smithfield RI Meeting- am copying one of these verbatim - source is LDS Film #1312, Smithfield RI Marriages, 1725-1905 Whereas Daniel Southwick of Mendon in the County of Worcester in the Province of the Massachusetts Bay &c and Ruth Mussey Daughter of James Mussey of the same town and County abovesaid &c-having declared their intention of taking each other in marriage before several Publick meetings of the People of God called Quakers according to the good order used among them whose proceeding thereinafter are deliberate consideration thereof with regard to the Righteous Law of God and example of his People recorded in the Scriptures of truth in that case we are appointed by the said meetings they appearing Clear of all others and having consent of parents and others concerned therein now therefore these are to certifie all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this third day of the twelth month called February in the year according to the English account one thousand seven hundred and forty two where they the said Daniel Southwick and Ruth Mussey appearing in a publick assembly of the said people now have met together for that purpose in their Publick meeting house at Smithfield above said & in a solom manner he the said Daniel Southwick taking the said Ruth Mussey by the hand did openly declare as followeth friends I desire [you] to be my witnesses that I take this friend Ruth Mussey to be my wife Promising with the Lords assistance to be unto her a Loving Husband until Death separates and- and the said Ruth Mussey in Like manner did then Declare as followeth friends I desire you to be my witnesses that I take this friend Daniel Southwick to be my Husband Promising with the Lords assistance to be unto him a Loving wife until Death separates us and to the purpose and the said Daniel Southwick and Ruth Mussey as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presence sett their hands and wee whose names are here unto subscribed being present among others at the solominizing of their marriage and subscription in manner as for said as witnesses here unto have also subscribed our names the Day and year above written.
