This would probably be better on the MA Worcester list but I will place it here. I have two different Greene lines that meet up in Upton MA. Thomas Greene of Malden William Greene of Woburn/Charlestown. Bathsheba Sadler Green(e) married John Greene of the Woburn/Charlestown descendants. Bathsheba's mother was Sarah Greene descendant of the Malden families. The Upton /Mendon /Douglas /Northbridge family of Greene that I have been searching intermarried with Warfield in Mendon. Bathsheba Sadler Green's grave is in oldest cemetery in Town of Upton --the First Cemetery with 119 stones. The first marked burial in this cemetery took place in 1749 and the last in 1890. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mauhs/html/oldnor_1.HTM Neither of these Greene lines is connected to the Greene line of Rhode Island (unless they were in England). While looking at the 1870 RI census for the Jonathan F. Comstock family (wife: Mary Dexter Hall), I found a 55 year old Lydia S. Hall living in the Comstock home. The census shows Lydia's birthplace as Massachusetts. As far as I know, Benjamin Hall and Sarah Bates Hall of Bellingham had two children: Olive born in 1798 who married my 3rd great-granfather, John Jay Paine of Smithfield; and, Mary Dexter Hall, born 1821 who married Jonathan F, Comstock, my 2nd great-uncle. I always found it interesting that I haven't even found children who died at birth or died young in between Olive and Mary. It would seem unusual in the early 1800s to have only two children and have them spaced that far apart. Now, I find a Lydia S. Hall, four years older than Mary, living with Mary and her husband, Jonathan F. Comstock, in 1870 in Providence. Does anyone know if this Lydia is a sister to Mary Dexter Hall, thus making her an additional child for Benjamin and Sarah Bates Hall? Thanks, Frank

Hi Listers, Yes I agree we have great folks on this list that always pitch in and help when they can..Only thing is it isn't a consitent list. It's either a feast or famine.. and I like a feast better. So come all, lets get some queries, histories, chat, anything (well no flames please) on here and keep this GREAT list fed. No one likes to be hungry not even a name list. :)) Alice

Betty: Alice has stated the case best. I would love to clear up the confusion re Experience and Catherine. I have Walter being born in Leeds, Kent England on May 25, 1618, son of Walter Cook who was born in 1585. Catherine Brenton was born in abt 1628 in Hammersmith, England. Her brother was William Brenton, future Governor of RI. He acquired land on Martha's Vineyard at Gay Head, future land of Jacqueline Kennedy as her summer estate after Jack's death. He later acquired land in Newport which he named after his birthplace, Hammersmith! This, of course, was Hammersmith Farm, birthplace of Jacqueline and the site of her wedding to JFK. Small world. John Jr died in a plane crash within view of the Gay Head home. There is lots on William Brenton on the internet but not much on his ancestors. Dear Alice, Thanks a million for your answer on Walter COOK(e) and wife. It's great to find out more about a person you didn't even know existed before. I'll have to try to find out something from Hammersmith, England. Thanks again, Betty Sullivan
Morning Listers, Well Betty S. you do have a good memory. Yes, I have a Walter Cook (e) descendant group called the " Cookie Munchies". . We've been together for 7 + years. Probably 70 or more WC descendants , that I have run into , through the years, all but ONE agrees from various sources, writings etc. that Catherine Brenton was the only wife of Walter Cook(e). There is also a letter Catherine Cook wrote to the General Court.. and she says "OUR Children" .. Of course this is not proof.. but with other material we have , we feel very comfortable stating that Catherine B. is the wife Of WC. However most also agree the Elizabeth Holbrook, probably was the wife of his son Walter. Later research was done by Jane Fiske (see below) which does not prove this but helps us be comfortable with our findings. Till such time as we can find more proof that this is false, We continue to use it. Hannah was the d/o of Walter Cook (e) of Weymouth, Ma. who settled Mendon, Ma. in 1663. Presently we have no clue on who Walter Cook (e) descends from in England.. However , DNA testing is now being done by several WC. descendants from my group and also many Cooks on the Roots Web Cook list. We hope this will help to find WC ancestry back into England and probably find if the many other Cook lines are siblings etc. A new Walter Cook (e) Genealogy is presently being completed by the daughter of Robert Cook who died in 2003 before the genealogy was completed. RC worked extensively with Roberta & Dean Smith (now deceased) of NEGHS and other Genealogical Libraries. and all came to the same conclusion as the Munchies did. Hope this helps a little, Alice (see below) ****************** Catherine wife of WALTER COOK(E)_ : Walter Cooke Weymouth and later of Mendon, Mass. died in Mendon 5 January 1695/6 1695/6, having survived his wife Catherine by only three days Both left wills . Catherine's last name has not been found and Some early mixing of facts led to the belief that she was a Second wife and not the mother ot Walter S children(see George Chmabelain History of Weymouth, Mass. 1923. 3:174).
