Morning All Listers, Lisa, it has been years since I was in contact with the Uxbridge Historical Society. Uxbridge is a combination of The Historical Commission and Society. However , the Society does have Officers. All I can tell you would be to call the Uxbridge Town Hall or Library and probably they could give you a contact . The ladies I know have long ago retired their office. Sorry I can't be of more help. Happy Easter & or Passover to all lsit members and their families. Alice
Hi Alice & List - I'm asking for a email pal on another list - Does anyone know of a contact person & email for the Uxbridge Historical Society? I found their regular mailing address, but no contact person's name. Thanks, Lisa llepore@comcast.net
OK Frank..looks like this message came through OK. :) No problem..I always try and send Non- subbers messages to the list. Some people just read our archives and then send a query or reply..So I am never sure if these messages do get on the list cause I receive them as TO: Ma- Mendon.. Oh well, we just have to stay awake. :)) No rush Frank.. I have 2 busy upcoming weeks myself.. Alice alicep@rcn.com Message from Massachusetts
Hi Again, In the meantime Jes, you could post your Ballou queries to Ma- Mendon. :)) WE have many Ballou related folks I'm sure. Just a suggestion, Alice
Rootsweb has a list of all of it's active surname lists. You can check that list to see if Ballou is listed. If it is, then perhaps you should report the problem you are having to Rootsweb so they can look into it. Sue Susan M. <quote> Did Frank's message below go to the list? Frank, how come it says your not a subscriber?(did u use a dif. address?)<unquote> Probably my mistake, Alice. I use seven email addresses all linked to one Microsoft Outlook account. All incoming messages come into the one inbox. Outgoing messages automatically go out from the main address unless I remember to change the sending address to whatever is appropriate (in this case, I should have used my genealogy address so that it would be recognized by Rootsweb). Thanks for catching this. I had not seen my own message and was wondering if it got lost in space. This has served as a wake-up to me; I have sent several messages to different Rootsweb lists and all have disappeared. I must have forgotten to change the sending address on all of them. So, there's a downside to using multiple addresses within Outlook because you have to remember to change the sending address (actually easy to do with a pull-down menu of all your addresses). The positive side, though, is that I haven't seen a piece of SPAM in months. I created multiple emails for different uses with addresses that are not easily mirrored or guessed at by spamming software. Alice, I've gotten behind on the transcribing, but I'll get back to it this week. I should be able to mail the next set of transcriptions to you in a couple of weeks. Frank has volunteered to do some transcribing of old manuscripts belonging to the Mendon Historical Society, for me. Charles D. also on the list also volunteered to transcribe many hand written and typed pages of manuscripts written by his GGreat Grandfather Francis N. Thayer of Blackstone, Ma. Both have done such a great job with these manus. Thanks Charles and Frank for your help. Hopefully soon we can share these with our list members and probably later have a MHS home page. I am trying to get these request passed at a meeting , soon I hope. I can see Frank was very impressed with the early settlers of Mendon's history. Yes, Frank , at present it's all we have of this past era. Sad there isn't more. Also "Hello" to you all, and to you to Frank. I agree, once again we are in a slump here on the Mendon List . I have been trying to send query to the Ballou mailing list with no success. Does anyone know if it is defunct? For a few weeks I had trouble searching the archives. But now these past three weeks I have not been able to send anything even though I know I have checked to see if I am subscribed. Is there any way to check out the list through Rootsweb to see if it is still active? Thanks, Jes
Settlers of early Dover (part of Wardsboro) came from Milford MA. Ebenezer Sears was among them (I think he might have left Douglas MA but at least it was Worcester County if not Milford) Early settlement of this town dates back to when it was a part of Wardsboro. The first settlement of inhabitants was made by John Jones, Ithamer Allen and others from Milford in 1780. Wardsboro organized in 1786 with a town clerk and, after the division of the town in 1788 , they had a list of officers (election returns dated March 10, 1789) William Sears, highway surveyor Ebenezer Sears, Constable Doees anyone know of any others who left Milford for VT (WIndham County) at that time? I think there might have been a Cheney and others. Jean
