    3. Thank you Jim - It was Mendon's hot spot and will be missed. I work with some younger people, and yesterday 2 of them 16 & 22 both remembered that they got first hair cuts at Warren's barbershop - attached to Lowell's and also destroyed in the fire. There are so few of these types of places left - the food was great, and inexpensive. You could bring your kids and still have a nice meal. Go there for dinner, and see 4 or 5 people you know. I just saw the news - they said it was an accidental fire, starting in the kitchen.     3. Hi Jean - Lowell's was great - we went there quite a bit. In fact my husband and I were remembering that we had eaten dinner there each night before my sons were born. My husband was stuck in the traffic yesterday and did see the fire. He also drove by later in the day, but I haven't seen it yet - don't want to really.... Park street is correct. By the way - you don't happen to have a photo of the old merry-go-round at Lake Nipmuc do you?     2. Alice Palladini;
    3. Hi All Listers, Thanks Lisa for passing that sad news about Lowell;s along to t he list..Many list members have eaten there during their visit to the area..Most have had their lunch or dinner with Yours Truly also. :) Lowell's was a must for any area visitors..It is one of Mendon's landmarks. , and not only typical small town atmosphere but the best food for many miles around and price was right. :) Yes, Jim B. I remembe r well your visit and our many jaunts that included lunch or dinner at Lowell's and elsewhere. .. Many a family reunion in this area had their early bird dinner at Lowells. We will all miss it. Hopefully it will be rebuilt and still have the same asmosphere and quality food. The area people have lost an old friend indeed. In fact the NAA Aldrich reunion being held this weekend ha d planned Sunday lunch at Lowell's. Needless to say plans have to be changed. :( The Taft Reunion is being held also on Aug. 7th this year and also Desc. of Walter Cook Group ( Munchies) are holding their 7th reunion this year on Aug. 6-7-8 th..I know many who often get a bite at Lowell's will miss it, during their stay in the area. Once again Lisa Thanks for the web site and getting to our list about this tragic event. Alice

    3. I too am sad to hear of the collective loss of Lowell's. when I summered the 60's at my grandparents place, Lowell's was a regular stop. Of course it was Lowell's Dairy then. We'd bring home milk and without a doubt, the best frozen custard in the world. (The sherbet wasn't too shabby either.) With Milly Mitchell's for seafood and Lowell's for ice cream, it made for a perfect summer memory. Tim

    2. About 1943/1944 we went to buy ice cream at Lowell's Dairy. That was the favorite place for my family. We grew up on Mendon Road in Upton and when my brother got out of World War II he had a car so he could take us there. My Aunt lived over near Lake Nipmuc park I think it was Park Street. Have fondness for Lowell's Dairy. Jean

    3. Hi listers - for those you familiar with Mendon, you will be sad to learn that Lowell's restaurant, rte 16, burned down yesterday. Here is the link to one of the articles in the Milford Daily News. http://www.milforddailynews.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=51826 It will go to the archives [pay] pretty quick, so if you miss it let me know and I will send it to you. Started in 1913 as the site of Freeman Lowell's milk bottling operation, then to ice cream in 1931. Sold by the Lowell's in the 1970's, the location still operated as a popular local restaurant. Also destroyed was Warren's Barbershop, and the home next door to the restaurant. Sad day, Lisa llepore@comcast.net
