RE: John White....darn fingers don't always hit the right keys in the morning...death year is obviously 1718 not 1818!
RE: John (3) White, son of Joseph and Lydia (Rogers) White. I show that John (3) was born on 3 December 1668 and died between 2 September 1709 when he sold land to his brothers and 4 June 1818 when his widow remarried (see "The Fammily of John 3 White of Mendon, Mass" by Dean Crawford Smith and Melinde Lutz Sanborn, The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, volume 152, pages 184-185 pub April 1988). John married Sarah (maiden name unknown) who married second, at Mendon on 4 June 1718 Joseph Chilson (Mendon MA VRS., 267). On 15 December 1724, John White, late of Mendon, but now of Providence, Rhode Island, relinquished to his father-in-law [stepfather] Joseph Chilson, late of Providence and now of Mendon, for £60, his right as eldest son in the land of his deceased father John White of Mendon, also 6 acres bought from Jacob Aldrich (Suffolk County Land Record, 38:141) acknowledged 2 April 1725, recorded 6 July 1725. This deed provides proof that it was the widow Sarah, and not the daughter, who married Joseph Chilson. On 6 July 1725 Chilson was appointed to settle the estate of John White with the approval of his brothers, Joseph and Thomas White. She was living on 23 August 1744 when an order, approving the distribution made on 2 June 1731` of the land of Joseph Chilson to his eldest son Jeremiah, he paying £100 to the widow (Suffolk County Probate #5113). This doesn't help much on whether they were Quakers, or not- again, I have a copy of someone's marriage record (Quaker) which includes Whites as witnesses but still packed away until this weekend. Mary, if you remind me next week, I will try and pull that out. Maybe the above will help a bit. Jan Delorey

Greetings from California! My lines are WHITE, BENSON & CUMMINGS. I am descended from Joseph White of Mendon through his son John. I have: John b. c. 1668; m. Sarah _______ John b. March 13, 1701/02 in Mendon m. Rachel Benson June 6, 1728 Ichabod b. Feb. 28, 1728/29 in Mendon m. Rebecca Cummings June 14, 1752 The weak link is John, son of Joseph. I do not have a record of his birth and it is possible he was not born in Mendon. I do not have the name of his wife. Their son, John, was listed as a Quaker, and I wonder if the parents were also Quakers. Can anyone help me with this? Ichabod and Rebecca, also Quakers, were married in Providence, R.I. and moved to Nine Partners, New York. The family then kept moving West. Mary White Limosner
Alison, Thanks to you and to everyone that helped me today. I really appreciate your help. It is spirit like that that makes a great list! I will let you all know if I make any headway. Please remember that you are all welcome to pick my brain concerning DAR matters, whether it is where to find something, or who is eligable, or how to join. Always happy to help! Hi, There are several VERY GOOD Mayflower sites on line. Two I have used list all passengers, and one gives all kinds of documents, etc. - facsimilies - that you can print up. The Plymouth Museum also has lots of good stuff. Happy hunting, Betty Betty Sullivan, 232 E, Church St. Kewanee, IL, USA (Hog Capital of the World) Always ready to share Genealogy with anyone. A good place to start when looking for information on the 1st 2 or 3 generations of Mayflower passengers is Caleb Johnson's Web site: http://members.aol.com/calebj/mayflower.html It has reliable information and provides some sources. Regarding Degory Priest, Caleb says he & wife Sarah (Allerton) Vincent had 2 daughters born in Leyden, Holland: Mary, b. ca. 1613 and Sarah, b. ca. 1615. Both married. More in-depth information on Degory's descendants can be found in the Mayflower Society's "Silver Book" (a series of 5-generation studies on MF descendants) for the Priest line. I have one of the Silver Books that includes the descendants of both Edward Winslow and of John Billington (his granddaughter Elizabeth was the 2nd wife of my paternal ancestor Richard Bullock.) I don't recall if there are any Mendon names in those lines. My only known MF line is from John & Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland. John has a lot of descendants, so there will be more than one Silver Book with his descendants. I know of one that traces his daughter Desire's line, and there might be one other. (?) However there is none for my ancestor Lydia Howland. There is another series, the "Pink Books" that traces the lines for 4 generations, but I believe they don't always have the most up-to-date information available. Jim Bullock Littleton, CO

HI Again, >> Actually, there was a Hannah Cook involved -- but I don't believe she was >from the Francis Cooke line. Daniel Wilcox (the first) had a son Daniel by >the first wife and he married Hannah Cook. Yes that is the line I descend from Daniel and Hannah Cooke and she was a desc. of the R.I. Thomas Cook Family. Elizabeth 's desc. are in the Mayflower line. I also descend , as many of you do, from Walter Cook(e) who was a Founding Father of Mendon, Ma. However have never connected with the Mayflower Francis Cooke. There were many Cook (e) progenitors, not the easiest surname to trace. I am told some of HENRY COOK(E)s desc. also settled in Mendon, Ma. I have never run across any, however?? Alice PS Sue R. have you ever talked with Linda F. about your Nicoles/Nicholes lines??

The name NICHOLS jumped out at me this morning as I was reading my Mendon list mail. Do we have any NICHOLS experts in this group? RICHARD BALDWIN came from England, in the ship "Martin," to Milford, Conn., where he married 1642, Elizabeth Alsop, sister of JOSEPH ALSOP, of New Haven, Conn., from England. Second Generation, Sylvanus Baldwin, born 1646, married September 20, 1671, Mildred Prudden, born May 14, 1653, daughter of Rev. PETER PRUDDEN, from Yorkshire, England, to New Haven, Conn., 1638; removed to Milford, Conn., and died July --, 1656. So Richard was the emigrant, not Timothy.
