    3. Hi Bob, Sorry it took me so long to reply, Walter Cook (e) in Mnedon was supposedly to have two brothers, Gregory and Stephan Cook (E). They were in Mendon, Ma a short while and Greg. removed to the Newbury. Ma. area, The Samuel you are inquiring about, I believe was from the Gregory Cook-1 Family. Children of STEPHEN COOK-2 and REBECCA FLAGG are: i. MARY3 COOK, b. December 02, 1681. . ii. STEPHEN COOK, b. June 09, 1683, Newton; d. 1760. iii. ISAAC COOK, b. December 28, 1685. 4. iv. 3. Hi All: I goofed and missed the boat - Aaron Davis WAS born in Mendon, and was the son of Phineas and Priscilla (Wood) Davis. Priscilla was the daughter of Samuel and Rachel 3(Rawson) Wood. Rachel 3 Rawson was the daughter of Rev Grindall 2 and Susannah (Wilson) Rawson. Back to Aaron - he was a millwright. He married Susannah Chaddock 12 Aug 1783 Milford, MA, and went first to Surry, NH, then on to Wardsboro, VT, where he died. He had 12 siblings. As to anyone sticking their nose in - good! Welcome all noses to help. We care and share. 3. Hi Robyn, I have Vol 1-2- 6 of the AJ -George Aldrich Genealogies. Others on the list have all 6 volumes. I believe it is recorded that George Aldrich left Mendon for awhile before KP War and went to Sciuate Ma. and resided there. I can;t find my record at present; Is there anyone else on the list who can find it faster. :) Also AJ said there was a plaque on the boulder at Old Cemetery in Mnedon. He confused this with the plaque at the Moses Aldrich Quaker Cemetery. However in 1998, the National Aldrich Association did place a plaque on the old boulder in Old Cemetery in Mendon . My scanner isn't working at present, so I cannot send you a pic. But I do believe there is a photo on the NAA Aldrich Home page. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- http://members.xoom.com/jaldrich/ . There is also a story on " Where Was George Buried " on that page., that i wrote but have not updated it.. Except for the above that there now a plaque in Old Cemetery, the article is still correct. 3. Hi Rose: In my travels doing record extractions in the various RI border towns, yes, there were records stating that so and so was of Mendon, b. Mendon, etc. However, as Sue Roe says, the actual records will be in the place the the happening occurred. In some cases, a marriage or death or even a birth "return" would be sent to Mendon for instance if the person involved was from that place. 3. Hi Again. When it says removed usually it means they left the area. I do have in an unp. Genealogy that your Abner's parents were Daniel and Mary HUNT; Daniel b 28 Mar, 1709 Mendon, Ma. (also in VRS) s/o Daniel and Lydia.. (VR) There isn't a follow up on this family in the "Unp Darling Gen." by Edith Proffetty-1993 I too would assume he is not the same Abner as the other two?? Sorry , I can't help on where this Abner went. Does "removed" mean that he died and was removed from the taxpayer records, or does it mean that he moved away, a normal meaning of the word at that time? Can I assume he's not the same as the Abner who shows up in the Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files with a birth date of 19 May 1747? 1. Re: [MA-MENDON] Mendon-R.I.
    2. Alice Palladini
    3. Hi Rose and all Rooters, Mendon was 8 sq. miles and various towns broke off from the main Mother Mendon.. These towns all became Mendon's children and grandchildren. All these Towns remained Ma. towns.. (see my Welcome message ). Off top of head: :) I stand corrected , if wrong, please! . :) Woonsocket, R.I. was known as that much later. (1867) When Cumberland granted independence to Woosocket, R.I. and Inc. as a city in 1888 after Smithfield had donated it's share. The Blackstone River or great water falls seperated No. Smithfield, R.I. from Cumberland R.I. ( then Ma. ) A part of it , was first known as the Attleboro Gore. It was in Ma. but the townsfolk were more in sympathy with R.I. and wanted to be a R.I. community. Cumberland side of the falls was in Massachusetts.(east) Cumberland became Cumberland, R.I. 1746-47. After 1750 the land transactions were no longer recorded in Mendon. "Mendon may now be fairly considered as the parent of the most valuable portion of Eastern Woonsocket" (His. of Woon. by E. Richardson) It took many years of strife with this area , resulting in it being placed in both records of Ma. and R.I. Part of all this was was known as the Rehobeth North Purchase. There are many disputes on exactly what and where these lines were. This is a confusing issue and would take a smarter person than me to really tell it as it was. However I do have ancestors from all these areas, once Mendon , now Woonsocket, Cumberland R.I. No. Smithfield, and I look in all areas for data. My understanding is the portion of Woon. R.I. and Cumberland, R.I. that was part of Mendon.. That these people resided in what was called Mendon. The early records are in Mendon. Again the top of my head. When the General Court laid out land to other settlers and groups in the area.. the town lines changed. Also Mendon laid out lands to their town settlers and those parts of Mendon , later became R.I. The Blackstone River, the Charles River and the Mill River all played a big part in the seperating the two states, parts of Ma. and R.I. Smithfield borders changed when Woonsocket, Attleboro etc. boundries were laid out and that also resulted in parts of southern Mendon (South Parish) becoming parts of Woonsocket, R.I. and No. Smithfield now. Did I manage to confuse ya's?? Suggestted reading: Adin's Ballou's History of Milford; E, Richardson's History of Woonsocket, R.I. ; Annals of Mendon; by JG Metcalf. Alice List Mom ======================== : [MA-MENDON] Mendon-R.I. Hi everyone-can someone tell me when it was that Mendon was part of R.I.?
