Perhaps a query on the Tilsons should not be included in this group, but I have just discovered a date on a very nicely done Dunbar homepage which messes up one of my early lines: Hannah Dunbar is said to be born 3 October 1715, died 7 May 1725. I have her living from the 31 May 1677 to 22 Sept 1715, and married to Edmond Tilson during this time (this is son of Ephraim, son of Edmond). How does Martha(2) Aldrich's husband tie into John's line? We know that John Dunbar knew the Aldriches and Thayers from his indenture period. Very few Tilsons were left in the RI census from Providence north by the 1790 census, but there seemed to be a gain in the Jillson name. This is not a phonetic problem but was this possibly a result of an early misreading that was not confirmed with the families involved? Karen Weiss

http://www.graftonma.net/ This site also has information on Chief Cisco.
In the 1830s and 1840s, for example, connections within this area can also be seen through the Cisco family, Natives, moving from Massachusetts/ Rhode borderlands up the Blackstone River: Of the children of Hannah Potter and Edward Cisco or Scisco, several moved into Worcester County from Cumberland or Slatersville, Rhode Island. Brother Francis R. Cisco, [1811-1892], located to Mendon, in 1832 marrying a Medfield-born Native, Lucy Coffee, their children and grandchildren, all born at Mendon. In the early 1840’s, sister Harriet Cisco married a Native from Uxbridge, where she established her family. In 1843, at Mendon, another brother George W. Cisco, [1819-1902], married Native Lucretia Coffee, their family living at Mendon and Milford, whose son, for example, George Cisco Jr. [born 1848], was a teamster resident at Smithfield, Rhode Island in 1870 when he married a Greenwich RI born Native. In 1844, at Grafton, another sibling, Samuel C. Cisco married Sarah Maria Arnold, [1818-1891], whose Nipmuc family had been resident at Grafton, Upton and surrounding towns since the seventeenth century. http://www.geocities.com/nipmucnet/unseena.html
I had asked a question about General Tupper on the New York Military list and someone said "search on Google" and I said "Oh, well". Then about 4 days later someone else on a different list gave instructions on searching through Google. And, voila, the two came together at the right time. I have spent the last 3 days doing nothing else. When I started searching (at work) in 1968 we had the old teletypes but the searching systems were sophisticated. We used one out of Dialog, one of BRS in Scotia NY and for professional work they were excellent. Google is the closest I have seen to the searching systems available in the 70s and now available for the general use. Does anyone know any others? On family tree maker (library books) you can do a site search which is like a free text search. It is helpful. For example, William Miller, Millerites; or Ballou and Richmond and "New Lights" ; on Google you can do it in one window and it is fast. As the young people would say "it is a gas".... Jean

Hi Alice, Marcella Pasay is the one who was working on Logee! In fact, she still does now and then. It was a gorgeous day!!! Just a tad too hot for my liking... but I'll live! The next few days are going to be worse! And you met both Marcella and myself at the Taft reunion. Morning All and Cuz Tom, Thanks Tom for all that poop. Added to my Flint file. Now, we are all just "amateur" genealogist.. A few on the list are professionals, however like us, most are looking for their ancestral lines, also.. and need our help as much as we need theirs. As you can see I need all the help I can get. :) So Tom , you ARE in Good Company, but we are also with you on our Ma-Mendon list, cause I know from experience how thorough YOU are in your searches.. I gave you a little on our Farnsworth line and you ran with it.. and must say quite successfully. As you have with many other lines also.. We are all here to help one another, and probably find a few new Cuz's.. Marilyn are you the one that was working on the Mendon . Hannah Pickering w/m Abraham Loggee/Loja?? and 2nd a Spaulding/Spalding? And I met you at the Taft Reunion, a few years back?? Hannah being a many Gr, aunt to me, did you ever find any more on that line?? Looks like a gorgeous day here in Ma. Hope you are all having the same, Alice
Here's my finale for the night on Bosworth - if nothing else, a reference. This is also from The Great Migration - 1620-1633. BIBLIOGRAPHIC NOTE: In 1926 Mary Bosworth Clarke published a detailed genealogy of the descendants of Edward Bosworth, attempting to document every appearance of the members of the early generations in the records [Bosworth Genealogy[:] A History of the Descendants of Edward Bosworth Who Arrived in America in the Year 1634 (San Francisco 1926), cited herein as Bosworth Gen]. The account of JONATHAN BOSWORTH is especially important in that it includes full transcripts of some unrecorded deeds and the unrecorded will [Bosworth Gen 61-75].
Here's some excerpts from "The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England 1620-1633": James Downing sketch. .......In January 1641 his stepmother reported disapprovingly that he wished to marry Rebecca Cooper of Salem [WP 4:303]. Letters from Emanuel Downing (20 January 1640/1) and John Endicott (28 January 1640/1) also refer to the matter [WP 4:305-06, 312]. On 12 July 1642 "James Dowing" sued William Flint for slander, but the defendant did not appear [EQC 1:42]. COMMENTS: James Downing's father clearly despaired of him. In a letter of 21 November 1632 to John Winthrop Jr. he complained that James wrote "such a scribbling nonsense letter, that I am ashamed to answer it," and also "there is no hope of his attaining to any learning therefore if he hath a mind to husbandry, or may be fit to truck and play the merchant, and his liking stand thereunto, I would gladly............. Richard More sketch: ......January 1667[/8] Richard More of Salem, mariner, sold to Edward Grove of Salem, sailmaker, half an acre "which More has by an execution against John Prescott" [ELR 3:27]. On 10 January 1670[/1] Richard More of Salem, mariner, and Christian his wife, sold to Thomas Pitman of Marblehead, husbandman, ten acres in Marblehead [ELR 3:107]. On 21 September 1658 Richard Moore of Salem, mariner, sold to William Flint of Salem, husbandman, ten acres in the south field [ELR 3:127]. On 27 September 1671 Richard Moore Sr. of Salem, mariner, sold to William Browne Jr. of Salem, half an acre in Salem [ELR 3:127 and re-recorded 3:174].......
Dear Cousin Alice, I'm afraid you have me in fast company - perhaps a bit too expert in the ways of genealogy than I should be involved in. Here, all of a sudden I see Marilyn Labbe's name - so I know I'm in trouble now for sure. :-) I just "met" Marilyn a few months ago. Well, you seem to be talking about another Alice Bosworth than mine - the who married Richard Hutchinson. So I'll forget about that Alice Bosworth for the time being. I did do a little surfing in the FTM Library and found the following - which may or may not be of any value. Hi Alice, William Flint in not in the Great Migration books... just got the 2nd volume of the 2nd series which covers the years 1634-1635, C - F. There is a Henry Flint, but no William. He was in Salem, MA by 1645... In the History of Salem, MA by Perley Vol. 2 - William Flint was born ca 1603, married, but left his wife in England, as his mother would not allow her to come to America with him. In 1644 he married Alice Williams, by whom he had children. He had brought one or two children with him when he came to America. Alice b ca 1636 m/1 Henry Bullock, M/2 John Pickering; Edward b. ca 1638; Elizabeth b ca 1640; Margaret b ca 1642; Thomas b. ca 1644 and Hannah b. ca 1647. (Looks like he brought more than one or two children with him!!!!!) You will have to do more work on this one!!! Hi Marilyn and all Listers, Marilyn, thanks for the reply. Alice Bosworth married in England, so she probably came over under her married name and NOT with her parents. I have she Married William FLINT.. Again, not to say I am right, as my source is a poor one indeed. :) Does the Great Migrations have William and Alice Flint?? Doubt they'd give her maiden name however. Hi All, In The Great Migration Book, Immigrants to New England 1634 - 1635 Vol. 1, it has Edward Bosworth and they do not have any daughter Alice for him... they have Mary who married William Buckland, Jonathan m. Elizabeth ___, Benjamin who had two wives, and Nathaniel m. Bridget Bellamy. Hi All and Tom, Tom our Edward was b. abt 1589 and was abt 45 when he died coming into Boston Harbor, aboard ship. I have that his daughter Alice married William FLINT in England.. and have her b. abt 1607 also. Says she was mar. in Stoughton, Surrey, England. My only source for this is the LDS and haven't any other proof that this Alice Bosworth is the dau. of Edward and Mary. Does anyone have a source for this?? For all I know your Alice might be his daughter ?? And let's not outrule relationship till all the facts are in. :) Alice

Alice Bosworth who m. 7Dec1627, in Cotgrave, Nottingham, Richard Hutchingson b. 1602/03. My source was The Hutchinsons of Salem, New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol. XXII Located at NSDAR, 1776 D Street NW, Washington, DC 20006-1595. I have the feeling that my Alice Bosworth is not of the same Bosworths. As far as the Hale line, mine goes back to Thomas Hale who d. 12Apr1730 in Rowley, MA. His father, also Thomas Hale, m. Mary Hutchinson d. of Richard Hutchinson, and Alice Bosworth.
While we're chatting about the Howland MF line, I'll give mine that comes through Mendon. John Howland Elizabeth Tilley Lydia Howland James Brown James Brown, Jr. Margaret Dennison Dorothy Brown Nathaniel Medbury Benjamin Medbury Elizabeth Darling Benjamin and Elizabeth were m. 8 Dec 1748 in Mendon. [Mendon VRs, p. 347. Benjamin's surname spelled Meadberrey in the record.] Benjamin was from Smithfield, and that's where he and Elizabeth lived and had children. Elizabeth's parents were Benjamin & Mehitable (White) Darling both born in Mendon and married there. Benjamin Darling's parents were Dennis & Hannah (Francis) Darling who came to Mendon from Braintree. Mehitable White's parents came from Boston. I haven't gone back any farther and don't yet know the parents of Dennis Darling (ca 1640-1717/8) or Thomas White (1665-?). Jim Bullock Littleton, CO My mother is a Medbery (the spelling used in her line since the 5th generation.) There are a number of Medberys buried at Little Neck Cemetery in Riverside (East Providence), RI, where Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland's gravestone is. (It's a newer stone. I don't know if the original was ever located.)
