In October 1861 John Warner Sheldon joined the 30th MA Infantry in Lawrence, Essex Co., MA according to NARA records. He was born in Lyndon, VT 19 Mar 1811, but lied about his age to join, claimed to be 43 instead of 50, and 1860 census may not have his correct age. He was a carpenter, married to Elizabeth, and I am not sure how many children were living with them at that time. Perhaps Leona Nancy, 16, Sarah 14-15, Moses 13, Philena 11-12 (if they all survived) may have been. John W. died in 1862; no pension records, so his wife may have predeceased him.
