There are a number of William Grays in 1850: 2 in Barnstable Co; 6 in Essex Co; 1 in Hampshire; 7 in Middlesex; 2 in Norfolk, 5 in Suffolk and 2 in Worcester. With middle initial A: 2 in Bristol Co; 1 Essex; 1 Franklin. B in Essex, C in Middlesex, D in Norfolk; E in Suffolk. H: 4 in Middleses, 1 in Norfolk, 1 Suffolk. L: 1 Berkshire 1 Worcester. R Hampden, W Worcester. Spelling it Grey adds 1 in Plymouth Co and a William S. Grey in Worcester. Perhaps some more identification for the William you want would help.
