New Worm Reply I received this from another list and thought I would put a Heads up to everyone. Experts warn of new Internet worm threat September 12 4:27:00 PM EST WASHINGTON, Sep 11, 2003 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Internet security experts say a new worm might strike soon, similar to the "Blaster" worm that infected more than a half-million computers last month. The warning came this week even as the Microsoft Corp. said it had discovered new security holes in its Windows operating systems that could be exploited by Internet worms. Vimal Solanki, marketing manager for anti-virus software designer Network Associates, told the Washington Post: "We got really lucky that Blaster didn't try to delete files or render computers otherwise unusable. It's really up to your imagination what hackers could do with this flaw." Microsoft is urging consumers to immediately download and install free software from its Web site to patch the vulnerabilities. The Department of Homeland Security also issued an advisory about the problem. The Post said Microsoft labeled both flaws "critical," meaning they could be easily exploited by an Internet worm, a program that spreads rapidly across the Internet without any action on the part of the user.
