I am searching for family of NOTT, Percy Lincoln.......believed to be son of Charles & Mary b. Mass. 1865 Percy joined the Navy at young age and rose to Chief Bosun Mate , before retiring I believe. Last seen on census in Ma. around 1900. In this he is still single. He married sometime before 1906, not known where but possibly in Mass. tp a Mary/May Waddell. How can I get copy of marriage cert?. Children of that marrige were to my knowledge Mary Agnes b. 1906 henry b. approx 1910. I am trying to determine where they were born. I have only found the children in NYC after 1930. Mary is married and Henry I believe still living at home with Mother and new husband. I have tried thru Heritage census to find family but have not had any success. I do know that percy and family were in NYC by 1926, as he died there. I am actually trying to find him and any of family for 1920 in Mass. to determinie where Mary Nott married in 1922/3. I haven't been able to find her and or marriage in any NYC records. Percy Nott died in NYC hospital in 1926, retired from Navy. There are no family members since 1965, alive to ask where . Thank you for help, I appreciate it. Any information as to searching for marriage record also would be helpful.

I am trying to find family of NOTT, Percy L(incoln) he was born in 1865 we think in Mass. son of Charles and ?? Is found in Scituate in 1900, as painter in US Navy , possibly Boston ship yard. Looking to find his marriage to Waddell, Mary ( May) .around 1904-5, they had a daughter Mary A and son Henry sometime between 1906-1916. Mary the daughter may have married my Father there in 1922-23, as he was serving in the US Navy or just out of Navy at time of marriage. Have been unable to find any information before 1930, on them in NYC where they moved to and children born there. How would I find if they married there in Mass.? s ther ea site for looking for marriages John J CARMODY to Mary A(gnes) Nott. Please reply to list. Thank you for any help in this matter.

Hi, Could someone look up George Williams in the 1910 & 1930 Census. His wife's name was Mary and they were 51 & 50 in the 1920 Census. They have a daughter Edith 27 and a son ??? 24 in the 1920 Census. They say there immigrated in 1899 yet their children were born in Massachusetts. Dates don't jive. Thanks for any help. Val
Lucy, Thanks for the advice. Where do you send for a birth certificate? Dianne: The 1880 census states he was born in 1853/1852 as he is age 27 - not 1858. It also states that his parents were born in Ireland. These are important facts to help with a search. Please remember to add as much information in your next posts to help the volunteers. There was a William J. Kelly in Salem MAss. in both 1860 and 1870 that may be yours. No surnames of Kile..... You may have to write for a copy of Harry's birth cert for verification.....and continue backward. Lucy

By that I mean I have found UK census entries for Squire in 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901(the latest UK census released). I know he married Elizabeth Ann Grimshaw in 1888 in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire and appears with her in 1891 census in Ashton. He also married Matilda Fenton(my great grandmother) on Feb 29th 1896 in Ashton, Lancs and appears with Matilda and children in 1901 in Ashton, Lancs. I already suspected that this may have been a bigamist marriage as I have been unable to find a death record for Elizabeth Ann Lownds and his name is misrecorded on the marriage certificate (? intentionally) and the date 29th Feb, in the UK this is traditionally the date women propose to men. Could Squire have emmigrated to Massachusetts with Elizabeth Ann settled and brought up a family there but also returned regularly to the UK and married again and brought up a different family? Alternatively he could be a completely different individual, but the other Thomas Lounds you found for me is likely his brother who is missing from the UK census after 1881. Alternatively he could be a completely different individual, but the other Thomas Lounds you found for me is likely his brother who is missing from the UK census after 1881. I believe another brother Edwin may also be in Massachusetts. Further Squire's mother was called Esther, the name of his daughter. What do you think? If you are able to send a copy of the census images directly to me as an attachment I would be most grateful. Thanks again for your time and help. Best Wishes Beverley

Hi, Would SKS try to find this family for me. I am at a brick wall trying to find the parents for William J Kile. According to the 1880 census he was born in 1858 in MA. I know that he died in NJ in 1897. That he was married and had one son named Harry. Would like to see if I can find his parents. I would think the best start would be 1860 in MA as he would only be 2 years old (approx). Thank you, Dianne

Yes, people can be enumerated more than once in the same census - either because they moved, or because the census taker did not follow the instructions properly. Even in the early years, they moved around quite a bit. If you are talking about 2 different towns in the same state, I would think that was likely. This information is at the ancestry site about the 1790 census *The 1790 census was begun on 2 August 1790. The marshals were expected to finish the census within nine months of the Census Day-by 1 May 1791. Although most of the returns were in long before the deadline, Congress had to extend the count until 1 March 1792. By that time some people probably were counted who had not been born or present in 1790. So, your person could have been enumerated in one place in August 1790, then moved, the enumerated again in the new place at a much later date. Try searching for sites that will have some information on the 1790 census and the town you are asking about. "1790 census" +town name In the later census where family members are listed by name, and where there is a date of enumeration on the top of the page, there is much more information to use to make an educated guess as to wether they are the same person or not. Unfortunately in these early census only the head is given with number of family members. You could have several John Smiths with families of the same ages, so I think you need to look for other evidence that you have the same family in 2 different locations.
