Gail, In the 1880 census for James Thompson, he has a son William aged 17. Is this the William G. age 7 in 1870 that you want looked up that has a wife Sarah ? If so, there is no 1890 census, so the next census is 1900. This William G. or William Thompson would be 37 or 38 years old depending when his birth day falls according to the month the census was taken. If this is the William G. Thompson listed as a son for James, I can't find a William, Bill, William G, George, George W, Wm., Geo, that has a wife Sarah. Is there a possible middle name for Sarah? All the George's and William's have wives named Mary, Ann, but no Sarah's. I have used the Thompson spelling, Tompson, Thompsen, Tompsen, Tomson, Tomsen and every other variation I can think of and nothing comes up for him in MA. Sorry I couldn't help this time. Heres another possibility for 1870: Joseph, 45, and Mary, 31, Lebeau, born in Canada, with children Ida, 6, Foster, 3, and Ulric, 0, born in Massachusetts. In 1880 they were in Westborough..
