    1. [MA-CENSUS] Berkshire or Worcester 1880/John REID
    2. Rob Fisher
    3. Hello, I am looking for the family of John REID and Isabella FISHER in the 1880 census for Massachusetts. My last record of them is a baptism of their son John William Frederick REID, baptised 1 August 1872 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The register says that the father was a farmer in Colebrook (Coldbrook?) Massachusetts. Though I am not familiar with Massachusetts, on-line gazateers suggest that this was in Berkshire or Worcester counties. I don't have a birth date for John REID, but Isabella REID was born in 1841 and married him in 1869. Thanks, Rob Fisher

    1. [MA-CENSUS] Essex County, 1860, Sheldon
    2. gmbird
    3. In October 1861 John Warner Sheldon joined the 30th MA Infantry in Lawrence, Essex Co., MA according to NARA records. He was born in Lyndon, VT 19 Mar 1811, but lied about his age to join, claimed to be 43 instead of 50, and 1860 census may not have his correct age. He was a carpenter, married to Elizabeth, and I am not sure how many children were living with them at that time. Perhaps Leona Nancy, 16, Sarah 14-15, Moses 13, Philena 11-12 (if they all survived) may have been. John W. died in 1862; no pension records, so his wife may have predeceased him. I sure hope you can locate him. Thank you for your effort. Glenna Bird GMBy

    2. Celia, You're welcome....just to let you know... I just received another email from him with an attachment called setup.pif. I have been told that responses on the real rootsweb will never have attachments. Got to tell you, at a mear $40.00 you can't beat having Norton Anti-Virus. Trust me I learned the hard way when another virus crashed my whole system in Feb. Thank the Good Lord, I have computer techies in my family who helped me fix it as Gateway wanted me to reformat my hard drive which would have meant I'd have lost everything- not to mention tons of genealogical research. If you're interested, check out their web site at : http://www.siteowners.com/buy_norton_antivirus.shtml I am not a computer techy, I'm a stay at home Mom so I am very fortunate to have friends and family who are. Still it's an aggravation you don't need to have your system crashed by some idiot with nothing better to do than to send viruses out. Good luck. Audrey

    2. THANK you Aaron!! What a guardian angel. Just one minute before your post came in, I received an e-mail with an attachment from that individual as a response to my query (on a different list!!). I was about to open it but hesitated. Thank goodness I read your e-mail (the very next one) first. It seemed odd to send a response in an attachment , which is why I hesitated. I have no idea what the attachment had in it, as I have deleted the whole e-mail, but I shudder to think. Another lesson to me about needing to get antivirus software. Thank you SO much.
