    1. [MA-CENSUS-LOOKUP] Cady ROCHE---Uxbridge
    2. Margie
    3. I'm trying to help someone else find her ancestor, but he seems to be an elusive one! I have found him in local records, but have never seen his name on a census! I have access to Heritage Quest censuses, which are only indexed by head-of-household. Perhaps somebody on this wonderful Mass. Census list has access to the Ancestry.com censuses and can check for him there for any year at all. He died in 1912, so he would only appear in the censuses for the years: 1850, 1860, 1870, 1900, 1910. His name was Cady ROCHE. Sometimes that was spelled, ROACH. He lived in Uxbridge in Worcester County, Mass. He immigrated here from Ireland, but I don't know when. In 1852, he married Bridget CUMMINGS in Blackstone. They lived in Uxbridge and had at least several children. After Bridget's death, he married Mary HENSION in 1862. They lived in Uxbridge and also had some children. Cady ROCHE died in Uxbridge in 1912. I'm wondering if the name "Cady" was a nickname for something else. I've found him in the Uxbridge Vital Records, for the birth of his children, but I have been unable to find him on the censuses. Also, that's not a traditional Irish name, is it? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Margie who lives near Uxbridge, Mass.

    3. Lucy Thank for the info regarding Chadwick St. I had not been able to find Chadwick St. on any map. Henri was a druggist (that's the occupation listed on the marriage license). I'm trying to "connect the dots" between these two families. Maybe through the church? My mother was never told a word about her "real" family, and her name and birth date was changed on several school records that I was able to obtain. I feel like I'm peeling an onion, and with each layer I peel away, there's another mystery. I am so appreciative of all your help. Valerie By the way - Chadwick Street was located near Yarmouth Street, where Copley Place now stands. It is about 1/2 mile from 1290 Washington. The only thing I can think of is whether or not Henri worked with Frank in the cigar business. Lucy Whoever said "Seek and ye shall find" was not a genealogist. ==== MA-CENSUS-LOOKUP Mailing List ==== NOTICE: The posting of any emails other than a lookup request or reply to a lookup request are NOT ALLOWED and may result in immediate removal from this list CENSUS LOOKUPS HOME PAGE http://www.rootsweb.com/~censlook/ ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    1. Re: [MA-CENSUS-LOOKUP] Boston, Barbier, 1910

    3. Lucy, My mother was told at Julienne deConinck's funeral that the woman being buried was "not her real mother" and that her real name, was Anna Barbier and she had a brother Larry Barbier, possibly in CA. This person then said that's "all they knew". While reading a book about Clark Gable, my mother came across the name of a publicist from MGM, named, "Larry Barbier". My sister called directory assistance in CA and got a phone number for Larry Barbier, on a whim called the number and got his widow. When my sister explained who she was and why she was calling, the woman burst into tears and said....."the family has been looking for her for almost 70 years, does she know she has a sister still alive?" She didn't and fortunately they were able to meet. After both their deaths, I decided to find out how this all came about. The information you have given me has been a tremendous help. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Valerie Valerie: I see the family in 1920 with Henry in California. Annie, mom, is missing and the two youngest. I am going to assume that John Francois and Anna were left behind as they were too young to move to California?? Maybe that is why Henry is not found in 1910 with the family?? I see both Henry and Annie in 1900 - newly married. It states he is born in RI and she in CT. In 1920, it states that Henry was born in NY. When did Annie Kerrigan Barbier die? Or was she ill after 1910 and that made Henry 'board' out the youngest children? How did your mother find out a few years before her death that she was being looked for?

    2. Valerie Tatalias
    3. THANK YOU so very much for all the information. This is just amazing....... You are wonderful..... I have been hitting one brick wall after another in my search for the truth..... My mother was Anna Barbier (DOB: 12-29-1907). After Annie (Kerrigan) and John Francois died (1910- or 1911) the children were placed in an orphanage (still trying to find out where that could be). Anna was removed from the orphanage and placed with Julienne and Frank deConinck (if I can find the orphanage, maybe I can find out who took her and placed her with them). Henri went to CA. when he returned for my mother, the deConinck's had gone to Europe. They changed my mother's name and continued to move around for the next 60 + years, and I believe they knew her real family was looking for her. Since Annie died in 1910 or 1911, and there was no Henri at Chadwick St. he must have left the family and already gone to CA. This is new information......and extremely helpful. Thank you. My grandfather (Henri) searched for my mother until his death, then her brothers and sister took over......by the time my mother found out about her real name, only her sister was alive. But no one was able to piece the whole story together. My mother died in 1989 and I have been trying to find some answers. Thank you everyone for your help. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this! Valerie Valerie: I found Annie and children in 1910 at 15 Chadwick Street, but no Henri... here is the info: Barbier, Annie A. 3. Hi everyone, I'm new to this, so I hope I'm doing this right. I am trying to solve a 93 year old mystery. Family name: (Father) Henri E. Barbier, (DOB: 6-14-1877) (Mother) Annie Kerrigan (DOB: 1874) Children: Caroline Barbier (DOB: 5-17-1901), Laurence H. Barbier, Jr. (DOB: 9-21-1902) Henri barbier (DOB: 3-30-1905), Anna Barbier (DOB 12-29-1907), John Francios Barbier (DOB: 1911 ?) In 1907 they lived at 15 Chadwick St. in Boston. Do not know the county or district. In 1899 Annie (Kerrigan) Barbier lived at 35 Chadwick St. in Boston, before she married Henri Barbier. One of the above children was my mother. She was raised (but never adopted) by another family. Frank deConinck (DOB: 10-22, 1878) lived at 12 Noanet St. in 1907. and Julienne (Trenteseau) deConinck (DOB: 4-17-1885)lived at 1290 Washington St. in 1907, in Boston. I am trying to find a connection between the two families. Did they live near each other? Did they know each other? My mother never knew her family was looking for her until a few years before she died at the age of 82. ANY help would be so appreciated. Thank you everyone Valerie Tatalias

    3. If you're talking about HOLYOKE, the city near Springfield, Massachusetts, it is spelled as above. In case you wanted to enter the name into a search engine or census lookup or something where you need the accurate spelling. I hope you're not offended and I hope that this will help you in your search.
