Hello Could someone do a lookup in the 1930 Census for an Irvin W. Herb and family. Thank you very much Joanne
Hello Margie~ Thank you so much! I think this may be my grandmother's brother. It's hard to tell, because he was John H. in 1880 and 1900 Oneonta NY, but then disappeared. During that time, I found an Oneonta NY city directory with a "Milton" Drysdale living in the house with my gr. grandmother and my grandmother. The family has a history of changing names, so I think it may be the same person. The age is dead-on. I found him in 1930 Worcester census with the last name misspelled (Drydale), but can't locate him in 1920. Perhaps he was missed because they changed addresses. The Worcester directories have him there in 1918 and 1929, but I can't be sure about 1920. If he had children, the 1920 census might show it, but they could have moved out between 1910 and 1930. Another mystery. I am tracking him mostly to find info on my elusive gr. grandmother, who married 3 times (widowed at least twice). Never quite sure who I am looking for with her... Thank you again! I never would have found him without your kind help. ~Nancy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 31, 2003 1:36 PM Subject: [MA-CENSUS-LOOKUP] Worcester, 1910, DRYSDALE, Milton. > 1910 Census Worcester, MA > > DRYSDALE > > Milton H...head...age 36...1st marriage...married for 5 years...born in New > York....father born in Scotland-English...mother born in > Scotland-English...occupation is "cigar __? Eric, The 1890 census was destroyed in 1921 by fire & water while in storage. Only a few fragments were saved for a couple states, but MA was not one of them. You might want to repost a lookup request for 1900. Joanne ==== MA-CENSUS-LOOKUP Mailing List ==== In the U.S., a census has been taken every 10 years from 1790 through 2000. All censuses taken after 1930 are still confidential and the information they contain is not open to the public. The census from 1790 through 1840 only named the head of the household and the numbers of people in categories - 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, etc. The census from 1850 through 1930 lists each member of the household and usually gives the relationship to the head of the house. It also gives age (later years give birth month and year) and place of birth (usually just the state or foreign country). The 1890 census was almost totally destroyed by fire so there is a 20 year gap between 1880 and 1900.
