    1. Re: Hingham Cemeteries, Plymouth Co.,- Trying to find HEYWARD and/or TUTTLE
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Tuttle, Heyward, Hayward, Tuthill Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3RB.2ACIAE/223.2 Message Board Post: Hi again. I took another quick look and did not find any HEYWARD's in MA Census sheets who were listed as "Black" before 1900. There was a Martha HEYWARD in 1870 in Amherst, MA, but she was listed as "White." I did find a HEYWARD couple in Boston in 1900: HEYWARD, JOHN (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, 12-WD BOSTON Age: 29, Male, Race: BLACK, Born: VA Series: T623 Roll: 681 Page: 49 They seem to have traveled up here from VA with some other families living in the same neighborhood in Boston. .I checked the HAYWARD spelling and in "before 1900" all the families (250-300 each time), there was only one "Black" person. In 1900 there were several. That's all I can offer for this morning.
