Hi Debi, David Allen Lambert's book, "A Guide to Massachusetts Cemeteries," reports that Darling Repose Cemetery which was founded in 1833 is at the REAR of Millville Road, East Uxbridge. The NEHGS should have the Gravestone Records. Good luck. Joanne
I would dearly love to locate the cemetery referenced in this obituary for my ggg grandfather, John "Pickles" Darling. Although I have information showing it is on Millville Road in East Uxbridge, I have not been able to find it. Has anyone on this list seen or heard of this cemetery? Thanks in advance for your consideration and assistance. Debi C. Bristol, RI MILLVILLE - THE LATE JOHN DARLING - John Darling, whose death was announced in last night's Call, was not only well know here, but was a familiar figure on the streets of Woonsocket. He died at 8 a.m. yesterday at Chestnut Hill on the place were he was born and had resided for over 90 years. He attained his 90th year last January and had enjoyed good health until quite recently. He took to his bed about four weeks ago and retained his consciousness to the last. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Darling and came of a long lived family, his father being 89 years and 10 months old when he died. The Darlings were among the early settlers in this vicinity and they are very proud of their ancestry. John Darling was considered an authority on the genealogy of the family. He was well preserved and never used tobacco or liquor during his life, and never needed glasses to read with. He was a kindly old man, honest and conscientious and was one of the town's best citizens. To people in Woonsocket, he was better known as "Pickles" Darling from the fact that he was renowned for the making of the best pickles which he sold about that city for years. He was wedded to Miss Rachel Clarke of New York, at Providence, in 1850. Two children were born to the union, John Darling who died 23 years ago and Mrs. Katherine Brown, who, with her mother, survives him. There are three grand children, Roscoe Brown of Whitensville, Mrs. Annie Aldrich of Uxbridge, and Charles Darling of Chestnut Hill, also three great grandchildren. Mr. Darling is the last of his family. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from deceased's late home. Rev. C.J. White of Woonsocket will officiate. Burial will be at Darling's repose cemetery.
You can go to the Pollard Memorial website (http://www.pollardml.org/newref.html), there is a link for "ask a reference question", maybe they can answer your question. Maureen from Lowell Massachusetts ....searching for Curtin, Gorman, Drumm and Gormley (Gormanly)

There is a book published in 1914 called Vital records of Chelmsford, Massachusetts to the end of the year 1849. My local library has a copy, but the computer catalog says it is out to the "Bindery". Perhaps someone else's local library has a copy on the shelf? Vital records prior to 1850 don't usually include much information, probably just name, age and date of death. -Amy Ritterbusch ----- Original Message ----- From: <hoytd@bellsouth.net> To: <MA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 8:34 PM Subject: Re: [MA-CEM] Loewll Cemetery...Edson > The man mentioned about 5 cemetaries in the control of the city. The man mentioned about 5 cemetaries in the control of the city. He stated that the Department of Health may have information to list what cemetery he is in based on his death record. When I was in Lowell last, the town said that they didnt have any records before the date they were incoporated, I believe 1851? And that I should try Chelmsford to find the actual death record. This is where I left off last. Did she manage to give you the names of the cemeteries that they keep records for? I know of Edson, Westlawn and I believe there is a cemetery on School Street, but not sure if St. Mary's in Tewksbury and Lowell Cemetery is on that list. Bring your walking shoe's, because Edson is a pretty large cemetery. Maureen from Lowell Massachusetts ....searching for Curtin, Gorman, Drumm and Gormley (Gormanly)
I called the Edson Cemetery this AM and they explained that there are about 5 cemeteries and very poor record keeping. If there is no cemetery or buriel plot listed, you have to search row by row, and that is if he had a marker !! (as alot do not have markers.) Maybe this would be a good volunteer project ! Im going up north for Xmas, maybe I can knock of one or 2 of the cemeteries. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). I think sometimes it is still worth a phone call to confirm (Edson Cemetery Telephone 978-970-3323). Some cemetery offices close for lunch and sometimes the cemetery office is not actually located at the cemetery. I'm not sure what the case is with Edson. Dear List Members, If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. If you are having problem and I do not answer you right away, know that I will. I like many of you work full time outside of my home. I am fortunate that I can check my e-mail any time I wish, but know that there are spaces of time I cannot. I always check my e-mail each and every evening and will respond to message that need me then and there. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. When posting a query regarding a surname it would help all of us if you would put your surname in CAPS. This way the members can easily pick out the surnames you are looking for. On the other hand when the entire message is in CAPS we feel that we are being yelled at. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now, the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting from one from one of us. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. 7. If your list has the gateway open, meaning the messages posted on the board also hit he list, know that every once in a while a SPAM message that is caught by the Board filter slips through the gateway and hits the list before it can be stopped. JUST DELETE IT. By responding the the list regarding he offending message, you just continue it on, and there is not one thing I can do about it at that point. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me.
