Hello, There are many cemeteries in Lowell, most very near each other in the South Lowell part of the city. The largest probably being the Lowell Cemetery and the Edson Cemetery. I believe the city's Cemetery Office is located at the Edson Cemetery. Also, don't forget that the City of Lowell annexed off of the Town of Chelmsford, and it wasn't until the 1820's. Not too far from the cemeteries off of Gorham St. (Rt. 3A) in Lowell is one of the two cemeteries in Chelmsford which are off of Riverneck Road. (The Lowell Cemetery is on Lawrence St.) If you do a search for "Lowell" in the archives of the Middlesex County List (MAMIDDLE), you will find a lot of information on this city. www.rootsweb.com Mailing List INDEX Also, every town/city around here has an Historical Society, and they should each have a list of the cemeteries in their area. Hope this helps. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. You will find a lot of information about the City of Lowell at this web site: http://library.uml.edu/clh/index.Html ----- Original Message ----- From: <hoytd@bellsouth.net> To: <MA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 12, 2005 11:51 AM Subject: Location Question Lowell/Chelmsford > Can anyone answer this question? > > If a person died in 1842 , who was a factory worker in Lowell, what would be the most likely place to be buried? > > Are there any of the cemeteries in that area indexed? > > Any help would be appreciated !! > Looking for resting place of James Hoyt/Hoit died 1842 , Lowell, of Diabetes. > > ______________________________

My husband took ill suddenly (12/28/04) and passed 13 Jan 2005. I went up to the cemetary in early December. Unfortuneately, everything was covered in snow. I wasn't even able to locate my father. I am hoping to go up in a couple of weeks. Are you still interested in a photo?

Give them a call. Sometimes they will photocopy the burial records and send it to you along with a map of burial location w/in the cemetery. Lisa
Debi, Thank you for the advice, I will give it a few day before I move on. I I have family in Ma on the other side of the family but have waited over a year for them to get there. So I decided to see if I could get help this way. Thanks again Kim
Kim, Although it is a bit too far for me to help you, I do belong to a network of volunteers at www.RAOGK.org who perform these types of efforts. If you do not get an offer of help from this list, perhaps a RAOGK volunteer can help. I have a record of death for a Alice BATES dod is 7-8-1905. Place of Burial is listed as Calvary cem, Boston, MA. The undertaker was E. A. Crosby, 10 Warren ST, Boston. Her place of Death was 24 Agassiz St, Cambridge, MA, and her residence at the time of death was 23 Munroe St, Boston, MA. Does anyone know if this cemetery has been renamed or exactly where it might be located. I would like to get a photo of the plot if there is one. Thank you Kim Block (BATES) _Skipperkab@aol.com_ (mailto:Skipperkab@aol.com)
My great grandfather Thomas BATES and one of his children are buried in this Cemetery according to their record of death. Upon calling and confirming that he is there I found out that he and his daughter are in the same grave. Mildred died in 1913 and Thomas died in 1922. Is there anyone that might go there and possibly see if there might be a Stone marker and possibly take a pic of it and the front of the cemetery. When I called they said they were in the older part of the cemetery and someone would have to show us where they were buried. They didn't even know if there is a marker when I called. I live in Ohio and am not able to make the trip during the week when I would assume there would be an office worker. Thank you in advance. Unfortunately all of the records of burials in Needham Cemetery were burned in a fire. I think the fire was about 1950. Maybe someone else has a different date. Remjos
Oh my, what bad luck. Together with the disaster of the 1890 census, I am having a hard time with this lot.. Thanks a lot for this Remjos.
