    3. I know that Louisa is buried at some special site in Mass.. I'm curious as to whether she was ever buried at Mt. Auburn, Cambridge. I thought I saw her gravesite at Mt. Auburn while walking to a family gravesite, about 20 years ago. Did my mind fail me? thanks, Charles

    3. I called Orchard House. Louisa is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetary in Concord. She is in an area called Authors Ridge along with Emerson, Thoreau and several others. She was never in Mt Auburn in Cambridge. 2. I don't know *why* it happens either but I find by changing the zoom magnification located in the box just above the census, I can get the page will load completely (at a diffeerent size). It's not a fix but it sure beats the alternative - which is no page at all. 1. Long Island Hospital Cemetery
    2. charles brack
    3. I'm interested in the Long Island Hospital Cemetery, Boston Harbor. 1893 From "A Guide to Massachusetts Cemeteries": "No marked gravestones aside from numbered lot stones." I believe this would be similar to a death in prison and they're buried on prison property. There has to be records, somewhere on who is buried in these numbered gravesites. There is no contact information for this cemetery. thanks, Charles

    2. I think that this cemetery has another name or names. It could be Vine Hills Cemetery. There is an office there. There is also the possibility that it could be Oak Grove Cemetery. I do remember seeing that there were different sections with different names. I believe St. Joseph is one part of it. Sorry I can't be more specific but I know it has more than one name. Barbara

    2. Ginny Chung
    3. I have compiled a master index created from 5 years of cemetery transcriptions & research. The sources are multiple and can be found in more detail on the subsequent CDs. The primary source were the carved headstones found in these towns. It was often supplemented by written records found at the local libraries and Departments of Public Works. It will also identify the date of birth, death, spouses name and/or parents name. In total over 19,000 names primarily in the Middlesex County from 24 different cemeteries. 3. I did a google search asking for St Josephs Cemetary in Plymouth which brought up a listing of Massachusetts cemetaries. There are 2 St Josephs listed. One in Fitchburg and one in Pittsfield. Neither are close to Plymouth. I then tried switchboard and it did not have a St. Josephs in Plymouth. Is is possible that the cemetary is part of a parish church and not listed separately? 1. Holy Cross Cemetery (Malden) - Headstone Photo Request
    2. Bunce, Jeffrey
    3. I am looking for SKS to take a couple of photographs of some headstones at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. My aunt's grandfather and his 14-day old son are buried there. The specifics are: Joseph Viera (1860 - 1904) Alfred Viera (October 1896 - November 1897) They are both at 47 North Maple Avenue in Grave 31W, which, according to the map provided to me by the cemetery office, is right across from where Oak Avenue connects in with N. Maple Avenue. I am not aware of any other family members buried at that location, but a quick look around would be welcome. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance. Jeffrey

I took another quick look and did not find any HEYWARD's in MA Census sheets who were listed as "Black" before 1900. There was a Martha HEYWARD in 1870 in Amherst, MA, but she was listed as "White." I did find a HEYWARD couple in Boston in 1900: HEYWARD, JOHN (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, 12-WD BOSTON Age: 29, Male, Race: BLACK, Born: VA Series: T623 Roll: 681 Page: 49 They seem to have traveled up here from VA with some other families living in the same neighborhood in Boston. .I checked the HAYWARD spelling and in "before 1900" all the families (250-300 each time), there was only one "Black" person. In 1900 there were several. That's all I can offer for this morning.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Tuttle, Heyward, Tuthill Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3RB.2ACIAE/223.1 Message Board Post: Hi Sheilah, I checked Census information, and found an Edward TUTTLE in Hingham in 1900: TUTTLE, EDWARD R (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , PLYMOUTH, HINGHAM Age: 38, Male, Race: BLACK, Born: MA Series: T623 Roll: 674 Page: 85 Unfortunately, that particular sheet won't download onto my screen, so I can't see who was with him in the home.* The 1910 Census shows them still in Hingham, this sheet showing Jane as his wife, and with a daughter, Esther or Ethel, 17. There seems to be TUTTLE families living on either side of them. A possible brother is Walter, 51, with his family, and Henrietta, 70, their possible mother (HoH): 1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS Series: T624 Roll: 612 Page: 76 Also, under Edward, the Race designation does not appear to be "B" for Jane and Esther/Ethel. It looks more like "Mu" possibly for Mulatto. The couple might have been still alive in 1920 as I'm finding an Edward and Jane TUTTLE living in Hingham: TUTTLE, EDWARD K (1920 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , PLYMOUTH, HINGHAM Age: 55, Male, Race: MULATTO, Born: MA Series: T625 Roll: 726 Page: 162 Oh, there it is .. I think there was a little bit of mistranscribing from this Census sheet, but here Edward is listed as Mulatto and not Black. (I can only go up to 1920.) And, Henrietta, 80, is still alive in 1920, and there are other TUTTLE families in Hingham then (possibly the relatives again). I would write a letter to the Hingham Town Clerk and ask for the death information / death certificates on these TUTTLE families. They might all be buried in the same cemetery. *Almost every time I try to use HeritageQuest from my home computer (through local library), at least one of the Census sheets won't come through onto the screen. I only get the top 2" of the sheet where the headings are. Does anyone know why this happens. (It's not a question of "waiting" until it does download.) If I have time, I'll look for Martha HEYWARD, but I'll guess if you find the TUTTLE gravesite, you will find Martha.
