I am researching the following Surnames with Lutheran roots: HOLL�Oberpreuschwitz/Eckersdorf (near Bayreuth), Bavaria, Germany > Economy, Penn. > St. Louis > Lincoln Co., Kansas WOLTING�R�sfort (near Osnabr�ck), Lower Saxony, Germany > Lincoln Co., Kansas TIEMANN�Dahlinghausen (near Osnabr�ck), Lower Saxony, Germany > Lincoln Co., Kansas MUELLER/M�LLER�Germany > St. Louis > Lincoln Co., Kansas I have extensive genealogical information about my Tiemann line, which has been traced back to about 1570 to Arndt Meyer zum Vorwalde (born Holtkamp). The name changed to Tiemann due to practices involving the transference of property. I have complete information about Tiemann lines that is correct to 1981 (some branches later) and the Meyer zum Vorwalde line to about 1925. My own church background is Missouri Synod, but I have a theological degree from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago (I am a lay person). I am fairly well versed in Lutheran history, theology and church structure, if that is a help to anyone. I also know German. Scott Holl Chicago

Hi Scott, Welcome to the list. You mentioned you speak German. I was wondering if you could please tell me the meaning of the following two names: 1. Johannes 2. Johann I was told that Johann means Mr. is this true? My ggg-grandfather was from Germany and his name on the ships list was Johannes Auer. Also, do you know how I would be able to get records that were kept by a Luthern Church that existed during the 1700's in Va? Any help is appreciated.
