    1. [LUTHERAN-ROOTS-L] Listowner post
    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Hello subscribers, It has taken me a long time to accomplish this, but I finally managed to update the mailing list home page to be more representative of the various synods: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mdtaffet/lutheran-roots_list.htm I now realize that there are numerous synods out there, so I would appreciate your comments as to what additional links I should add to the web page. Now for a question. I am still way behind in sending you the PML posts that I intend to send. Partially because I only have a short time in the evening to do it, and partially because I receive many messages every day -- more than I can conceivably post. In other words, I don't know that I will ever be caught up. Therefore, I would like your help in prioritizing the posts that you would like to see most. In other words, if you could post the specific surnames, churches and locations that interest you, I can try to search for any posts that pertain to those topics, and send those first before I send others. Please direct your comments here to the list, as others may benefit. -- Thank you, Mary D. Taffet Listowner for LUTHERAN-ROOTS mdtaffet@syr.edu

The name "Dreffein" is not a French name and I am having troulble tracing their roots back to Alcase >> There is a Huguenot newsgroup on rootsweb which may be helpful to you. Just go to www.rootsweb.com scroll down to "Mailing Lists" (on the left side), and click on, Then go to to "Ethnic Mailing Lists" (upper right hand corner) click on and scroll down to Huguenots and follow the directions for subscribing. You might also explore the rest of the rootsweb site; there is plenty of help there for all sorts of research. A trip to your local public or college/university library may help you with background research on Huguenots. Our library, as small as it is, has several books on this subject. Good luck. 1. [LUTHERAN-ROOTS-L] Rare German Family Bible 1685
    2. I have a rare German Bible published in 1685. My family was originally French Huguenots who fled France in 1685. The name "Dreffein" is not a French name and I am having troulble tracing their roots back to Alcase France where they came from. Can anyone help me in my search? They were among 400,000 Protestant who fled the country at that time because of religious persecution. Their faith must have been strong because the majority of the Huguenots, 1.5 million, stayed in the country and were coerced to convert to catholicism.
