Dear Lutheran Roots: I am researching for the 250th anniversary of Ziegels Union Church in Breinigsville, PA. I have been trying to trace the history of our ministers back to 1750. I am seeking information on the birthplaces of two of our Lutheran ministers, Georg Wartman and Joseph Doring, who were active in this area from 1811-1837, when Wartman died. Doring then moved to Casstown, OH and I have located his grave in the Casstown Cemetery. According to their tombstones, Wartman was born Nov. 29, 1793 and Doring was born in 1787. The two are said to have been related by marriage of a half or step sister. Any help you can give me in locating their birthplaces would be greatly appreciated and acknowledged. Try to locate the Yearbook of either Lutheran Church-Missouri or the ELCA for the addres of the district/synod offices, and write to them to find where the records of that church is located. Remeber that the ELCA was formed form serveral other Lutheran Churches.
Try the new Lutheran center here in Baltimore at 1-800-869-5492. They should be able to get you in the right direction. Was it an LCMS congregation or ALC/LCA? IF the latter, ask for the Delaware Maryland Synod. If the former, the Southeastern District. John Dornheim (at the East Side St. Luke's)
I am trying to locate records from St. Lukes Lutheran church form southwest Baltimore City (the area known as Pigtown). The church is apparently now closed. Anyone have a suggestion as to where I can find those records now?? Thanks for any help, Tricia
Posted on: Lutheran Roots Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Special/LutheranRoots?read=15 Surname: DOERING, WARTMAN ------------------------- I am researching for the 250th anniversary of my church in Lehigh Co., PA. From 1811-1837, two Lutheran ministers, Joseph Doering and Georg Wartman served a circuit of churches in this area. Wartman died in 1837; he was born Nove. 29, 1793 according to his tombstone at Jordan Lutheran Church. Doering left PA to go to Ohio with his son; he is buried in Casstown Cemetery, d. July 14, 1843, age 56. I am trying to find out where these "little ministers" as they were affectionately called were born. They are supposed to be brothers-in-law. Any help will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged.
Hello subscribers, Those of you who happen to be on more than one of my lists may see this message multiple times, for which I apologize in advance. I just wanted to let you all know that I am having major computer problems at this time. I can still get to my new mail (though not as quickly or often as before), but my access to old mail is gone until my computer is restored -- I have my mail on a zip disk right now, but I can't get to it easily. I have also temporarily lost all my bookmarks until my system gets restored. So, if any of you have questions or requests, it will probably be a while before I can address them properly. My husband is out of town right now, so I am computerless until he returns and we decide what to do. It all started with problems within Netscape last Monday. On Tuesday the problem had spread to Windows itself. After getting all my data safely backed up onto zip disks, I actually reformatted my C drive and tried to reload Windows '98. Unfortunately that didn't stop the crashes. I have seen that "blue screen of death", otherwise known as a fatal exception, at least 100 times since Monday. My family tree maker files were the first to get backed up onto the zip disks. I hope you all learn something from my situation. Hard drives *DO* fail. This makes the 2nd that has failed on me in 2 years. Both times I had to hope that I could get the system back far enough to back up my files. Last time the hard drive crashed I became serious about making backups; I backed up the file to the zip disk every week and also every time I made a major change to the file. But that zeal waned and I stopped making regular backups. I'm lucky I was able to get to my data to back it up this time. Next time I might not be so lucky. So, I will do my very best to be more conscientious about backing up my data from now on. Let my twice learned lesson also be a lesson to you. -- Mary Taffet List Administrator mdtaffet@syr.edu

I am interested in German Lutheran church records of 1725 and earlier, in the towns of Horka, Ballenstedt, and Sybexen-Naeensen. Unfortunately, I don't have access to nor can research any records in return, to reciprocate for any lookups given to me. Emily Obst (P.S. I can't read German, contemporary or old German.)

John, Regarding Dreisbach, check out the following pages: 1) http://home.ptd.net/~bkunkel/blib.htm This mentions church records for Dreisbach that go up to 1822. 2) http://home.cwnet.com/dynasty/HOOVOL72.HTM This mentions someone who was baptized there; perhaps they will know how to find the records. 3) http://www.firstct.com/fv/PA.html This is a service that sells microfiche, but they provide the title of a book that contains these records -- called "Early Pennsylvania Births - 1675-1875" by Dr. Charles A. Fisher, published in 1947. I hope this helps. -- Mary John Dornheim wrote: > > I am looking for records which substantiate that Lydia Dornheim was > baptized by Rev. John H. Heim in Nov of 1817.
