    1. [LUTHERAN-ROOTS-L] PA early church
    2. Patricia Jones
    3. Hello Everyone, I'm searching for any possible information about an early church in the Jefferson Twp. (later boro) area of southern Allegheny County. We have a very faded baptismal certificate for my GrGrandfather, Christian Kohl, from 1848. It looks like it says St. Stephens Church, and the pastors signature is possibly Rev. Guenther? Could anyone please give us some information about this church or this pastor? Any help would be very much appreciated. Pat __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 3. Yes, John, that is why I stressed LCMS because that is what I am. Since I cannot belong to everything, I can only help with what I have available. It is up to someone else to offer to help from the other denominations. At least if you tell me to look up the present day address of a church, and I say it is not listed, your field of search has been narrowed down that much more because you now know it is not LCMS. My offer still stands. Dorene John Dornheim wrote: > " > > Which is all well and good if the church was LCMS. It overlooks the 55 ELCA churches in Pittsburgh area. > > John Dornheim

    3. Hi, I have the Lutheran Annual listing all the current church. I cannot tell you what church was there in 1868, but I can tell you what is where today for anyone who wants to know. David, since there are 15 churches in Pittsburgh today, I will send the list directly to you, if you want them. Let me know. Another source for researchers is Concordia Historical Institute, if your ancestors belonged to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Address is http://chi.lcms.org/ click on "services available" and then "reference & research" - here you can see what all is available (or might be). Then you will either have to go in person and search or request it by mail. (for a fee) David, they can tell you which church was there then for that Pastor. Good luck. 2. Kathryn Skelton
    3. Wusterbarth looks to have been in Pommern. The LDS has filmed many of the records from Prussia. If you go to their family search site, they have civil registrations from Wusterbarth. You need to find out what parish that would have been part of (which I know can be done, just not how) and look up the parish in the place finder at the LDS site. I've been able to find extensive records on the part of Prussia I'm interested in.

    2. Raymond Ziemer
    3. Hi, Dorene - I did a double-take when I saw the name Margarethe KAISER, because I am also looking for a woman by this name. A Margarethe married my great uncle Willie ZIEMER in Chicago, but that was 30 June 1909. Time and age indicate this is a later generation - but could this lady be related to your family? I don't know where she came from, or where she went afterward. Willie died in 1915, and I don't believe they had any children. I can't find any other references to Margarethe since, so I have guessed that she went back to her family and/or remarried in a different state or something... 3. Dorene, What info do you have on your Great Uncle? My Grandfather was also an Adolph (Julius Kaiser 1886-1927) in Cincinnati. Let me give you my Kaisers in case any ring a bell: descendants of Friendrich: Adolph who had a son Adolph Kaiser with brother Charles Kaiser. Sons of Adolph and Mollie Kayser were Franklin Kayser (1918-1994) and Charles and a sister Evelyn. The name was changed about 1917. Yours was Kayser before Kaiser? Interesting! I've looked through LDS films at out local church to no avail. If I knew where to look in Germany I'd go. Had a friend look through emigration records in Berlin. He could find no definite match. Once I had the ship list I hired some one in Germany (back in the 1980s and LDS was not online), who literally went from town to town and followed their trail backwards to Bavaria where the church records gave out because of war destruction. I only have the direct line and did not ask for the siblings (now I wish I had). 3. Hello List, This is my first message to the list, and I'm hoping someone can help. Would anyone know if there was a Lutheran church in Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, PA about 1850? My family settled there, somewhere near Dravosburg. The family I'm looking for is Henry and Katherine Kohl and their two small sons, Jacob and Abraham. Henry was a coal miner. I don't know when Lutheran churches were established in the area. Could anyone tell me where I might search for early church records? I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
