    2. Rita
    3. Looking for information on the Neumann Family from Kalthof, West Prussia and the Witt Family from Obernessau, West Prussia. Johann Neumann married Elizabeth Mutz - they were believed to be of the Lutheran Faith. They had nine children. The oldest of which was my gr gr grandfather Karl Heinrich Neumann b. 3-5-1859 in Kalthof, West Prussia. (His other 8 eight siblings are unknown) Karl would immigrate to America approx 1883 with his friend Johann Thimm. After coming to America he joined the Mennonite Church and married Henrietha Elisabeth Witt b. 3-11-1858 in Obernessau, West Prussia. Also believed to be originally of the Lutheran Faith. They settled in Kansas and Oklahoma. Henrietta was the daughter of Adam Witt and Karolina Braun. Adam was a forestry worker who had a tree fall on him and he died early leaving Karolina to raise the children alone. They had the following children: 1) Margaret Witt 2) Augusta Witt 3) Wilhemina Witt 4) Annie Witt 5) Henrietha Witt b. 3-11-1858 6) Eva Witt b. March 22, 1860 Married: Andreas Kliewer 7) Karl Witt b. 1866 Married: Viola Foster. Henrietha, Eva, & Karl all came to America. What happened to the other siblings is unknown. If anyone is researching these families and has any further information please feel free to contact me. __________________________________________________ Hope you visit my website!!! www.ritaren.com

    3. Alice Thanks for your responces to my quests.I'll give some of these sources a try. The following facts will guide me as to the ones I try: 1. Upon arriving in the US, they went to the area of Stone Mountain, MI. 2. In 1890 they lived near Hillsboro, Montgomery County, IL. Carl worked in a nearby coal mine. 3. In 1893 they settled in Springfield, Sangamon County, IL where my grandmother deserted the family, where my grandfather became a Citizen and was killed in a coal mine accident. My father married and lived there until his death 1n 1950. Thanks again for your help. 3. Tom, Have you checked with the Bedford County Historical Society? My experience when I served out there, unfortunately, was that record keeping was less than desirable. More often than not, the records were kept in a home and eventually lost. Also, the Bedford congregation, Pastor Ray Short, might be of some assistance. John Dornheim

    3. Karl, You need to start with some census research to see if your family stayed in New York. If they did a later census report will give you a list of other sibs which would have been born into the family. The following is a ship mailing list you may want to subscribe to, it's free. TheShipsList-L-request@rootsweb.com You may find info about the ship, which port it sailed from etc. It may give you a lead back to the old country where your family came from. Good luck, Alice At 02:28 PM 10/20/00 -0400, you wrote: >Hi All, > >I sure need some help. 3. Hi Karl, Have you tried the LDS Church History Center? You can check to see where the nearest church branch is located in the phone book. They will have a genealogy library where you can order microfilm for a small fee, and view it at the library. They have microfilmed records from all around the world. You can visit their site at: www.familysearch.org. and use the Ancestral File, the IGI, links to web sites, research guidance and much more is available at the site and the best part of it, is the price. It's Free! The IGI is interesting to use, I think you will agree. You fill in info you have on your ancestors and if they are listed in the IGI, It returns the info to you very quickly. Enjoy, Alice At 02:28 PM 10/20/00 -0400, you wrote: >Hi All, > >I sure need some help. 3. Thank you for your suggestions, Doris, but I have already gone that route. I then contacted the Gettysburg seminary concerning churches in the Osterburg area, but the records begin much too late. I then inquired whether there might be journals of itinerant ministers who served that area, and that is how I learned of Rev. Lange's labors. Apparently the group in that area was so small at the time that they did not have regular ministers and relied on men such as he for baptisms, weddings, etc. Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: <Dooris63@aol.com> To: <LUTHERAN-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2000 10:04 PM Subject: Re: [LUTHERAN-ROOTS-L] Rev. 2. Hi Tom, I would suggest that you contact the Archives Dept. of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and ask them if they have records of the Churches that Pastor Lange served. Their e-mail address is: archives@elca.com They have microfilms of many early Lutheran Church records for loan and for sale. It costs $15 to borrow one of these microfilms for one month, or you can buy one for $45. However, if a Church in question still exists, you must obtain permission from the present Pastor of the Church in order to actually purchase the microfilm. You can look at these microfilms at your local library if you do not have your own microfilm reader. The website for the ELCA Archives is: www.elca.org/archives/intro.html When you get to that page, you will see two items at the bottom of the page relating to Genealogy that you can click on. Good luck in your search! Doris

    3. Does anyone know how I might obtain the journal/records of Rev. Frederick William Lange (d. 1812) who served congregations in Bedford and Somerset Cos., PA from 1791 until his death in 1812? In particular, I am searching for a record of the marriage of George and Margaret ---? Ridenour which took place in Bedford Co., PA, probably near what is now Osterburg, in 1804-1806. Their first child, John Ridenour, was born 1/26/1807. The Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg does not have Rev. Lange's records, but I am in hopes they may still be found in another repository. Sincerely, Tom Ridenour restorer@rica.net
