Luman Sr., 93, of Zanesville died at 1:05pm Thursday, December 05, 2013 at the Emeritus at North Hills. He was born on May 6, 1920 in Zanesville, Ohio. Roger worked at AEP for 38 years, first at Philo Plant as a Unit Supervisor and when the Philo Plant closed, he was transferred to Cardinal Plant in Brilliant, OH until his retirement in 1980. After marrying Jean Conkle, he changed faith from Catholic to Lutheran and attended St. Luke's Lutheran Church with his family. He was a lifelong member of the Eagles Auxiliary Club in Zanesville and was a volunteer fireman for the village of Philo where he lived before moving to Zanesville. Roger also sold real estate part-time, was on a bowling league at AEP, enjoyed fishing and going to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Surviving are his wife of the home, Jean E. (Conkle) Luman, whom he married February 8, 1941; two daughters, Rita (Stephen Gary) Rucker of Apple Valley and Kathy Luman of Zanesville; a son, Patrick Luman of Zanesville; grandsons, Roger S. (Kathy) Luman III, Scott Luman, Steven Gary (Carol) Rucker, Jr. and Michael Wilson; granddaughters, Vicki Rucker, Brenda Rucker and Stephanie (Mike) Winters; great grandaughters, Lindsay Rucker, Cheyanna Rucker, Trisha Luman, Brooke Luman and Sammy Luman; great grandsons Christopher and Aaron Lombardo and Zachary Captain Rucker; and several great great grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his father, Harry Luman; mother and step father, Stella and Robert Shaw; a son, Roger S. Luman, Jr.; and a brother, Richard Luman. Friends may from 10am to 11am Monday December 9th with funeral services to follow at 11am with Pastor Mark Matzke officiating on at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home. Burial will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's research in Roger's memory or Eagles 302 Auxiliary Club. I visited the Lyon Cemetry Just outside of London Mills' Ill. The graves of Willams and Mary A as well as many other Luman's are there. I was told that Jesse's grave was there but can not longer be fouond because of a Tornado that went through there long ago. Decendats of D.O. Daniel was born in Crooksville, Ohio on July 25, 1932 to the late Elmer Leroy and Rilla H. Hoops Luman. He was a graduate of Crooksville High School and Meredith Business College. He was a meat cutter, Local 1059 Union Steward and contract negotiator at Kroger Supermarket for over 42 years. He also was meat cutter at Sunrise IGA, and delivered for Shrivers Pharmacy, Outdoor Enterprises, and flowers for Kroger's. Daniel was a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church in Zanesville and First Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville, Ohio. He was a member of Philo-Duncan Falls Lions Club, was an avid hunter. He golfed in the Monday morning league at Green Valley and the Wednesday evening League at Genesis and served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by three daughters, Jean Ann (Jerry) Roberts of Zanesville, Jayne E. (Dennis) Dunlap of Zanesville, and Jill L. (George) Phillips of Vacaville, CA; seven grandchildren, Sara Schiele, Levi (Jessy) Roberts, Abby Roberts, Hope Roberts, Samatha Roush, Jeremy Roush, and Rebecca (Ben Pack) Joe; four great grandchildren, Mikenna Schiele, Kody Schiele, Graisyn Roberts and Parker Roberts. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty R. Tatman Luman who passed away on November 9, 2008.
