Hi, James, Sorry, I have lived with this brickwall so long that I dream of it at night but sometimes I do forget about both Indiana and Ohio having a county with this name. I am stuck in Clinton County, Ohio in 1840. My direct ancestor's name is Lafayette Ludington, born in New York in 1800, per 1850 census for Iroquois County, Illinois. I have studied this problem from all angles for some time and have developed the theory that Lafayette is the son of Comfort Ludington and Mary Mulkin which makes him the grandson of Capt. Comfort Ludington and Elizabeth Nickerson. I would love to put Capt. Comfort Ludington's name on one of the ancestor bars on my DAR insignia. When studying the dates of birth for the children of Comfort and Mary (Mulkin) Ludington, there appears to be a period of about 5 years between Comfort (the fellow who married Ann Holdcraft) and Mary. I think it is possible that is when Mary (Mulkin) died and Comfort #2 married Rebecca (Dayton). It gets complicated when you begin to name all the Comfort Ludingtons but there are three in a row and I think my Lafayette is the son of #2 and the brother of #3. I think of Capt. Comfort as #1. I just can't prove my Lafayette's connection. Now, aren't you sorry you asked? Just teasing...I welcome any help any one has to offer. Elaine
