The tests that we have done so far are only for the male Ludds/Luds and are called Y-DNA tests because they examine the Y chromosone that is passed down from father to son, to son , to son etc. Thus David Luddington in England and Ronald Ludington in Woodstock Ontario, Canada, (and several other testess) have at least 23 of the same markers that are identical. That means that we all came down from a man who existed many years ago...........in our case it is estimated that may well be about 7 to 10 generations back in time, and that is only a "good guess". Barb's father, if he were alive, could be tested and may well be connected to the same ancestor............or as has been found in recent testing there may not be a connection as the line has been broken at one time or another. A Luddington adoption? An unfaithful wife? infidleity? a gene malfunction? Many things could have happened to break the Y- DNA string. Us Luds and Ludds seem to be a having a good unbroken strain so far.
