Perhaps we have solved this one?? We had a Joseph Lud, b about 1823 in Otsego co NY who was a son of a Solomon Lud, mother was a Dorcas?. We think this is the same Joseph L Lud that married in Orlons co NY to an E (Ellen) C Strong in 1848 and then moved to WI where he shows in the 1850 census with a wife Ellen b NY in 1826? and a daughter Isadore age 2 b WI, and the mother Dorcas. Joseph L shows in New Orleans in 1861 while wife Ellen and daughter show in Cook co IL in 1860 census without Joseph. but with another daughter, Ellen b IL abt 1854. We think he caught a river boat and went down the river to escape marriage problems.? He is not seen after 1861 but Ellen and one daughter are still alive in IL in 1870 census. The daughter marries the same year. Hey it works for me!
