Hi all Ludds I trust you all are over the festive season and all the best for 2007 from me and good luck with your research. I have been transcribing the will of Mary Browne Luddington a widow who died in 1850 at Tavistock, Devon, England. This is very close to Dartmoor. I think that she is the widow of Joseph Luddington a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines who died in 1836. I have a copy of his will and he left all of his estate to his wife Mary Brown Luddington. I have never found a record of their marriage and one of my brick walls is a Joseph Luddington in my line born 1787 in Dover, Kent, England. I need to research ADM 196/66 the PRO's records for Royal Marine Artillery Officers. Mary Browne Luddington's will left her estate to John Whipple a surgeon of Plymouth and on his decease to Sophia Luddington Whipple who I have found was born in 1845 with her birth registered in Plymouth. Sophia Luddington Whipple married Mortimer John Collier in Plymouth in 1871 who was a man after my own heart, a wine merchant. In the 1881 census they had 3 children and 9 servants. Mary Browne Luddington's estate is substantial as she left 200 pounds to her servant Mary Lambert. I am having trouble with a number of places and names mentioned in her will and if anyone is familiar with the Tavistock area I would be happy to send details. Paul & Wiz do you want copies? I am also interested in the household in which Mary Browne Luddington was at in the 1841 census. Regards Gerry in sunny and dry Oz
