Gerry Devonport, (Plymouth) was a big Navel base 19/18 century, still is, one of my line, Thomas Levi luddington was based there in Abt 1889 after discharged from the Army. He had a pub there 19 Cannon street ether called the white heart or the friendship inn, (lots of pubs around there, 3 or 4 in one street). His son was a good Rugby player for England, William George Ernest Luddington, we could do with him know. If find ant thing for you will let you know.
