Those names and dates don't jive with what I show eg. James Lud  1703-1756, had a son called Lemuel Lud b 1747-1839. James was killed in the F and I Wars near Albany NY in Sept., 1756 when Lemuel would have been only 9 years old. His siblings and Lem were all b in  Windham, CT between 1737 and 1751. One sibling was married in Windham in 1760 so the widowed family was still in CT long after James was killed. Lemuel next appears in Mansfield CT in 1785 when he marries Hopestill Trescott and then appears in Vermont where he shows from 1787 to 1820 in census reports with wife and many kids. The whole family packs up and moves to Ohio after 1820. My Lemuel Lud that was married to Patience Gurnsey shows in the 1790 census in Balston Spa, NY with 2 young sons and later near Cooperstown NY in 1810 an "L Ludington" appears so he cannot be that same Lemuel at all. I wonder if there really was only one Lemuel Ludington who bounced around between VT and nearby places in NY and had wives in both places. He could have been counted in the 1790 census in both NY and VT as the homes were only a few miles apart. Possible ??? Lemuel Ludington served in the war of 1812 and was granted land in Arkansas for his service.  No info on whether he went there to take it up. Lemeul went North when young, fought in the Revolution (enlisting several times because he apparently needed the money) and married Hopestil Truscott (b 1762 Mansfield CT, died 1838 Euclid, Ohio) in Mansfield Ct before 1787.  Lemuel (from Rev. War Pension applic file) was, and remained, grindlingly poor, so much so that Addison County VT found (apparently around 1800) he could not feed his children adequately and required that some of them be "placed out:, i.e. put in the physical custody of other families who fed and clothed them commonly in exchange for work, unless they were infants.
