The Ludington Center, 101 N. Superior St., is less than a half-mile from campus, adjacent to city hall. The $2.6 million facility is being funded through private donations in honor of _John S. 'Jack' Ludington – who died in 2010_ (http://www.mlive.com/business/mid-michigan/index.ssf/2010/12/for_dow_corning_chairman_and_c.html) – and his wife Dorothy – who died in 1993. The Ludingtons met while attending Albion College, graduated in 1951 and had three children, who all attended the college. ADVERTISING _inRead invented by Teads_ (http://inread-experience.teads.tv/) Renovation of the building – which has had a variety of uses over the years – started in the winter. It is slated to open when Albion College classes resume in August. The building will house a variety of college programs, including the Build Albion Fellows Program, the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management and the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service. Eleven AmeriCorps VISTA members also will work out of the building, and the college's career and internship center is being moved there. Technology, classrooms, community space and retail space also are proposed as part of the Ludington Center. The bottom level will have an open floor plan, creating flexibility for multiple uses. "It expands what Albion College is trying to do with the community," said Chuck Carlson, Albion College director of media relations. "The president of the college has talked about more of a collaborative effort between the college and the community. (This center) allows for that." John Ludington worked at Dow Corning in Midland for 42 years, including spending time as its chairman and CEO. He also spent time on the Albion College Board of Trustees and was board chairman from 1983-89. "There's no question that the Ludington family has had a multigenerational impact on Albion College and on Midland and Michigan," said Gregg Strand, Albion College director of corporate and foundation relations. "There's a pretty rich history of Jack Ludington and his career, but many generations have been part of the college." In a message dated 7/12/2016 11:06:17 A.M. John Samuel (Jack ) Ludington (1928-2010) comes from my branch of the Ludingtons. He would be a g/grandson of my Seth b in Saratoga Co NY in 1788. Seth 1788-1876, Samuel 1849-1899, Archiblad 1872-1951 then John. This is the branch we have been searching of late trying to find the history of Lemuel, Seth's father. I never had a chance to talk with Jack even tho I came close a couple times. That branch never expressed much interest in their genealogy whenever I inquired.
