Don't forget me. I'm one of Levi's too! Maybe Levi comes from Abigail's branch, not Henry/Samuel. If he was a nephew of Abigail, he could easily have been sent there to help out during the war while Henry & Samuel were away. I have been going over many old records that have come my way since I started this crazy Ludd/Lud research way back in the early 1990's. We do know that Levi Lud came from NY state to Upper Canada in early 1800 was m to an Obedience Babbit and so was his friend from NY, Zacharius Burtch. Both came here to get FREE Land and were granted 200 ac each in early 1800. One year later, 1801, an Asa Dibble came asking for land and stated that the was a bro-in-law to both men and also came from NY. All three men had married Babbitt sisters. We have Zach Burtch connected to Dutchess Co NY thru the 1790 census, while Asa Dibble shows in 1790 in Ballston Spa, Albany co NY (later Saratoga Co NY) . We do not see Levi in 1790 at all. In 1790 we also find a Lemuel Ludington in Ballston Spa NY with 2 young sons, one of which we think is our Seth C Lemuel Lud. By 1800 US census we do not see Zach Burtch or Levi in the US but Asa Dibble appears in Otsego Co near Cooperstown NY and very soon thereafter he is in Upper Canada asking for land too. Lemuel Ludington also appears near Cooperstown in both 1800 and 1810 census so that would put Seth in that area too as he would only be in his early 20''s. By 1824 Seth appears m to a Lydia Waterbury and living not far from Levi, Zach and Asa in Upper Canada. He had come with the Waterbury family when they purchased land that had recently come available in the townships just North of the other Luds. Levi died about the time Seth arrived and Levi's kids divided his land and some moved out to the same townships, now called Zorra, East and West. I have no doubt that Zach, Levi and Asa were in touch with each other and told of the good land going for the asking and even after settling down they kept in touch with the folks back in NY. Records show the Luds, Babbits, Dibbles, Waterburys, and Burtchs, all crossed paths at one time or another and knew each other well. Even Seth's son, Joseph, married a Sara Jane Dibble, who lived near him in Zorra Twp so the Dibbles ended up there too at some time. Now that we have Seth C Ludington and Levi Ludington knowing of each other how do we connect them together in our Ludington family line ?? One can visit the Baptist Cemetery in Woodstock, ON and look at the Dibble and Ludington stones all standing next to each other to witness some of the connections. Got any clues ?? Hi Rachel..........did not mean to slight you at all. I just picked the first two ladies that originally gave me lots of info on these branches and then added the RootsWeb address so that all would get the message in any case. So far you are the only one to reply with info, most of which I had in my notes but even then you added some new bits and pieces too.I am still thinking that your Levi was really the missing son called Lewis that came from Samuel Lud, younger bro to col Henry. Samuel and Zach Burtch appear next to each other in Dutchess in the 1790 census and I bet that Burch and Lewis (Levi) both got the itch to move on at the same time. They had married Babbitt sisters as had Asa Dibble who was living upstate in Ballston Spa in 1790. In the 1800 census we find Asa living near Cooperstown NY while both Levi and Zach were now across the Niagara Frontier in Upper Canada and had just gotten 200 ac each FREE Land.Zach Burtch had some connection to Cooperstown NY as he had a son born there in the late 1790's according to Canadian records. It seems possible that Levi Lud, Zach Burtch, and Asa Dibble all met up together in Cooperstown NY whilst the first two were on their way to Upper Canada. Just a year or so after they told Dibble of how easy it was to get FREE land, he too left to join them !! Those Babbitt sisters must have had a good time in the early 1800's in Upper Canada when the three boys finally got together ?? Their land grants were very close to each other. My printing company, Woodstock Print @ Litho Ltd., sits on the last little piece of Levi's land grant even today. I just drove by it less than an hour ago.
