    3. In addition to the considerations cousin Mary points out, we also have the date discrepancy, the Hillside listing (and perhaps the headstone) say March 1822. The list of Joseph and Susan's children pasted into the Washburn family bible most likely by their daughter Syrena Ludington Washburn has Howard (no Thomas attached to either Joseph or Howard on the list) as being born June 28, 1822. The 1855 NY census has howard about 5 years older than the other 2 dates, but we know that is a common inaccuracy with the old census taking. Of course either March or June 1822 could be wrong. Wish we could find an obit for Howard. I spent some time searching the NY newspapers on the Fulton NY history site this morning but no luck. Rich Singleton

    3. Some info on Howard T Lud that I found in 1999. From  Oleans Co NY, 1894, Family Sketches Book. Ludington, Howard, a native of Dutchess county , was the first of the family to settle in Orleans county. He came to Murray in 1854, settled nea r Holley and engaged in farming. He married Sally Ann Corbin and they are th e parents of 10 children; John, Anna, Edward, Sarah, Ellen, Varnum D., Gilbert, James, Ira and George. Ira and Ellen are deceased, all the others living. John Ludington settled in Bowling Green , Kentucky., and James settled in Dallas, Texas.  Anna married Newton Hard of Murray;  Edward resides in Albion  and married  Sarah Wells;  Sarah married Clark Smith of Murray; Gilbert married Sarah Haight and resides in Murray;  George settled in Albion and married Ella Gleason;  Varnum D is engaged in farming in Murray. He is a staunch Republican, and a member of Holly Lodge I O O F. He married Grace, daughter of Jerome Love of Murray. Note from submitter; Holly and Albion are small towns located on the Erie Barge Canal (now NY State Barge Canal) and are "farming towns" even today, 1999. Thos. Howard Ludington was always called "Howard".  Ron Ludington ________________________________ From: Richard Singleton <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 12:11:41 PM Subject: [LUDDINGTON] Ludington Find a Grave In addition to the considerations cousin Mary points out, we also have the date discrepancy, the Hillside listing (and perhaps the headstone) say March 1822.
