    3. Earlham Library Obituaries, Earlham, Iowa June 1933 CURTIS H. BARNETT DIED AT SPOKANE Pioneer Earlham Man, aged 85 Passed Away June 25 at His Home on West Coast. OBITUARY Curtis H. Barnett, son of William and Julia Ann Barnett, was born in Marion County, Indiana, on June 20, 1843. He died June 25, 1933 at Spokane, Washington, aged 85 years and five days. Mr. Barnett was the only surviving member of a family of 12 children who came to Iowa with their parents in 1855. The Barnetts homesteaded a farm on the prairie four miles southeast of where Earlham now stands. The mail and few supplies that were required in this pioneer home were brought from Winterset. They attended church regularly at Bear Creek Quaker Meeting. In 1870 Mr. Barnett was married to Jennie Newlin, a pioneer school teacher. Into this home came six children, all of whom are living. They are: Hattie Ludington, Yakima, Wash; Miles W., Richmond Mo.; Herbert H. Spokane, Wash; Anna Gowin and Raymond C., Portland, Ore; Lilian Clark, Rockford Wash. He is survived by 13 grandchildren and five grat grandchildren. In 1901 he moved to Washington purchasing a farm eight miles south of Spokane which has since been his home. His life partner slipped into the great beyound in 1912. He was a birthright member to the Friends Church and retained his membership through life. He last sickness of six months duration was borne patiently and uncomplainingly. Mr. Barnett frequently said he was ready and anxious to depart whenever the Master willed it.
