Ludington, age 95, of Sidney will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Fairview. Burial will be in the Richland Memorial Park under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. Lloyd Harold Ludington was born on Sept. 30, 1908 on the family homestead south of Alexander, N.D., to parents, Emery J. and Ida O. (Patterson) Ludington. Lloyd completed the eighth grade at schools in rural Alexander and in Alexander. He lived and worked on his parents' homestead until April 1927, when the family moved to the Yellowstone Valley south of Fairview. The decision was made to move and hard work awaited them. Lloyd married Martha Langwald on Feb. 20, 1938 at the Methodist parsonage in Sidney. Together they lived and worked on the valley farm until 1974, when they retired and moved into Sidney. With his hard work and management, Lloyd was a successful farmer and livestock feeder of cattle, hogs and sheep. His livestock feeding operation was carried out with a team of horses until 1966. He and Martha were 4-H leaders while their three younger children participated. They were good role models for their children and grandchildren. Lloyd was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Sugarbeet Growers Association. In the 1960's, he was an active supporter of efforts to establish an alfalfa pelleting operation in the Lower Yellowstone Valley. He was an avid reader of newspapers, magazines and books, and was always interested in local, state, national and world news. After Martha passed away in August 1997, Lloyd remained at home in Sidney until entering the SHC Extended Care Facility in October 2000. He enjoyed watching television, especially athletic events and comedy. Bus rides out into the community and surrounding areas were enjoyed as well. Lloyd died Friday afternoon, July 2, 2004 at the SHC Extended Care Facility. Lloyd is survived by one son, Ralph N. (Lynette) Ludington of Cumberland Center, Maine; two daughters, Marilyn Lorenz and Ruth (Dale) Reidle, both of Sidney; grandchildren, Laura Potter, Fairview, Brian Thomas, Raleigh, N.C., Douglas (Mary Jo) Reidle, Bainville, David (Becky) Reidle, Sidney, Jeffrey (Trish) Ludington, Sioux Falls, S.D., Joel (Elizabeth) Ludington, San Diego, Calif., and Jan (Matt) Lavallee, Sabattus, Maine; great-grandchildren, Lloyd and Aaron Thomas, Raleigh, N.C., Somer and Abby Reidle, Bainville, Shelby and Shanyn Reidle, Sidney, Samantha, Alexandria and Daniel Ludington, Sioux Falls, S.D., Kaitlyn and Jarod Lavallee, Sabattus, Maine; and two sisters, Lois Houchen Hebert, West Jordon, Utah, and Luella Spencer, Centralia, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Gary; son-in-law, Walter Lorenz; sister, Fern; and brothers, Merrill, Warren and Raymond.
