I found a summer trip back to England with mother Emma in 1929. Records below - they went in June and back in August. Notice the name is given as Ed Elmer. There is an Ohio death notice for an Edward Lud born 1925 died 1973 in East Liverpool Ohio - never married. Looks like Emma died in 1978 widowed at the time. The Ohio death index is hit and miss on dates - Ohio Deaths, 1908-1932, 1938-1944, and 1958-2007 So it could have easily missed Edward Sr. That line may have died out - but the 1940 census is out next year - there may be other children.
