    3. Hi All Has anyone managed to search the U.S 1890 Census? On Findmypast, it comes up with no results for Luddington or Ludington? Paul

    3. The one and only known copy of the 1890 census was burned. There were only a few fragments that survived. That's where some of our unknown Luds come from. They show up in 1900, alone, aged 17-20, and unless they're mentioned in a will, or obit.... If I remember correctly, we've got a few that show up in 1910 that seem to have been missed in 1900. That happened sometimes as people moved. There are a few cases where they were recorded twice, in different places, in the same census. 3. I am fortunate that most of the NY Ludingtons that I'm interested in were in the NY State 1892 census in Dutchess County, so 10 are listed, and a couple of related Luds in Delaware County. Many other counties in the NY 1892 census did not survive storage, including the neighboring county south of Dutchess, Putnam, whuich may also have had some Luds in it at that time.
