Re: Captain Scott of the Antarctic « Reply #6 on: Saturday 14 July 07 17:23 UTC (UK) » Found this thought Paul might know of him ? It was found in digging not my writing... I have quite an interest in Captain Scott and own a biography by Reginald Pound, published in 1966. Certain family information, including various names which may be useful, is given, as follows: "No ancestor of Captain Scott has been traced with certainty beyond the third generation, all Devonshire born. In 1780, Robert Scott arrived from France to set up as a schoolmaster at Holbeton, a village of placid charm a few miles south-east of Plymouth.........The Holbeton schoolmaster had four sons, Robert being the eldest......this Robert Scott had eight children. The youngest, John, born 1830, married Plymouth-born Hannah Cuming when he was 31. She was 21, daughter of William Bennett Cuming, one of 80 surveyors then employed by Lloyd's underwriters in the ports of the UK. Both Scott parents died the following year, 1863. There were ructions about Robert Scott's will. One of his sons, General Edwin Luddington Scott persuaded two of his sisters, Mrs Preston and Mrs Harford, to join him in a lawsuit to possess the family home Outlands. William Cuming came to the rescue, settling the property on his daughter Hannah (Captain Scott's mother). John and Hannah Scott had four girls and two boys, Robert Falcon being the third child and eldest son. .... Kathleen Bruce [Scott's wife] was the daughter of the Rev Lloyd Bruce, rector of Carlton-in-Lindrick, Nottinghamshire, and Canon of York. She was the youngest of the family of eleven....Her maternal grandmother was Greek; her mother the grand-daughter of James Skene of Rubislaw. She lost her parents before she was sixteen and was taken into the Edinburgh home of her grand-uncle, William Forbes Skene, historiographer of Scotland." Regards, Mark Jones

I'm going to try writing again. Not sure what caused the bounce back when I hit reply. I had the Fuchs site bookmarked so just looked at it again. I guess it isn't actually common, but it is a dominate trait so if your parent has it it's 50-50 which is a pretty high chance of getting it. I'm not aware that either of my parents knew they had this and neither complained of symptoms. I'm a Ludington by marriage so this comes from a different source in my case. My sister isn't having any problems so far. She had her cataracts removed and lens implants this past spring. She's 73. It will be interesting to see if my eye doctor is familiar with the condition. Of course, I may not even have it. I don't blame you for being nervous about any medical procedures. I do hope you can get help. The bumping into things and falling is really dangerous and scary. Margaret > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Date: Sat, 30 Oct 2010 22:26:54 -0400 > Subject: [LUDDINGTON] Margaret this bounced back sent this way > > > Hi Margaret are you from Titus Luddington branch of Ludd's? No one in my New Harbour line seems to have heard of it but like I said looking back dad was nearly blind by mid 40's so was two of his brothers and the dad had really runny eyes and said he couldn't see at all told it was Rhummy eyes what ever that was.I guess somewhere down the line we are all from William but have never heard of the Fuch's untill 2006 apparently the eye doctor had a question if it was Meesmans or Fuch's but said nothing of either to me. He retired in 200 his girl took over the eyr oplace ans she said that in those two years she had never seen it out of a text book but mine was full blown. I had went right away for the transplant but my a fluke or miracle the eye was lost in the air port seriously... So this time I was beyond help. If your sister has it tell her as soon as she starts feeling her sight sliping away to run get the surgery done. Its no guarentee but most have great results. Mine is ! > way beyond help. when shes walks into walls and falling into and over things she left it too long. I have a sister in Nova Scotis that has not Fuchs but her retina tore and the incompent eye doctor didn't catch it it is detacheted now so her sight is gone in one eye from that. If she gets Fuchs as most get to late 50-60 before they ever get diagnoised with it , she will be in bad condition. I have scheduled the other eye for jAN BUT AM GRASPING STRAWS. aFTER THE AMBULANCE RIDE FROM A TERRIBLE FALL 2 WEEKS AGO i'M SCARED ,LOSING MY NERVE. OPPS sorry caps on excusre they typos.Just tell her do something while she is still ok.Margaret I have a Face book Fuch's support group . I have that and tons of info for any one who has it or knows of anyone with it.The link is below > > > http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=56973486097 > > > This list is adoptable.
