    3. We are working towards another reunion this summer in Ludington MI. We will probably stay at the same B and B we had last time as they had a nice breakfast area which we were able use for meetings at no charge. And the breakfasts were great too. We have selected the time period of the last  two weeks of August, probably the 23 to 26 time period. BUT more on actual dates later depending on Paul (from England) and his actual time table. So if you plan to come start making plans now. Ron Ludington

    3. In addition to the considerations cousin Mary points out, we also have the date discrepancy, the Hillside listing (and perhaps the headstone) say March 1822. The list of Joseph and Susan's children pasted into the Washburn family bible most likely by their daughter Syrena Ludington Washburn has Howard (no Thomas attached to either Joseph or Howard on the list) as being born June 28, 1822. The 1855 NY census has howard about 5 years older than the other 2 dates, but we know that is a common inaccuracy with the old census taking. Of course either March or June 1822 could be wrong. Wish we could find an obit for Howard. I spent some time searching the NY newspapers on the Fulton NY history site this morning but no luck. Rich Singleton

    3. My figures are out by a year in some cases but show all the kids as listed below. Joseph and Susan Salmon were only married a few weeks before the first son was born. Married 5 Nov 1809, Egbert b 28 Dec 1809. We have never done any Y-DNA testing of that line to see if Jos. was the father. But that would not mean much anyway as the line could have been broken any time after that event.  Ron Ludington ________________________________ From: M Inoue <[email protected]> To: Richard Singleton <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 12:37:15 PM Subject: Re: [LUDDINGTON] Ludington Find a Grave Hi Rich I recently received from My Cousin Dorothy Russell, some information her Grandmother Fanny Washburn had. in it is a note that says for Fanny It probably was copied from your bible there but here is the list she had Joseph Ludington Mar. 1st 1776 Susan Ferris Ludington Mar 26th 1791 Their Children Egbert          Dec. 28 1810 Sally Ann    Sept. 11 1812 Serena        July 14 1814 William        October 4 1816 Jane            Apr. 3, 1819 Howard        June 28 1822 Hannah        Feb 22 1826 Daniel          Aug 28 1828 Martha Ann  Jan 30 1831 Mary          Apr. 15 1833 George      Oct. 12 1839 On Fri, Dec 17, 2010 at 10:11 AM, Richard Singleton <[email protected]>wrote: > In addition to the considerations cousin Mary points out, we also have the > date discrepancy, the Hillside listing (and perhaps the headstone) say March > 1822. 3. Some info on Howard T Lud that I found in 1999. From  Oleans Co NY, 1894, Family Sketches Book. Ludington, Howard, a native of Dutchess county , was the first of the family to settle in Orleans county. He came to Murray in 1854, settled nea r Holley and engaged in farming. He married Sally Ann Corbin and they are th e parents of 10 children; John, Anna, Edward, Sarah, Ellen, Varnum D., Gilbert, James, Ira and George. Ira and Ellen are deceased, all the others living. John Ludington settled in Bowling Green , Kentucky., and James settled in Dallas, Texas.  Anna married Newton Hard of Murray;  Edward resides in Albion  and married  Sarah Wells;  Sarah married Clark Smith of Murray; Gilbert married Sarah Haight and resides in Murray;  George settled in Albion and married Ella Gleason;  Varnum D is engaged in farming in Murray. He is a staunch Republican, and a member of Holly Lodge I O O F. He married Grace, daughter of Jerome Love of Murray. Note from submitter; Holly and Albion are small towns located on the Erie Barge Canal (now NY State Barge Canal) and are "farming towns" even today, 1999. Thos. Howard Ludington was always called "Howard".  Ron Ludington ________________________________ From: Richard Singleton <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 12:11:41 PM Subject: [LUDDINGTON] Ludington Find a Grave In addition to the considerations cousin Mary points out, we also have the date discrepancy, the Hillside listing (and perhaps the headstone) say March 1822. 3. I show that Thomas Howard Lud had a daughter Sarah Cornelia Ludington , 1853-1909, and she marrried Clark Major Smith and had family and lived nearby. 1900 census NY     SMITH, CLARK M.            43 (09/1856) HEAD          NY   FARMER      D95 -T22  MARR-24     SARAH C. I too visited Holly NY on several occasions and talked with Ludington descends. They gave me much info but had nothing back past Joseph and Susan.  I also visited several gravesite but did not have a camera to take snaps.  Ron Ludington ________________________________ From: M Inoue <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Fri, December 17, 2010 11:37:02 AM Subject: Re: [LUDDINGTON] Find a Grave   Hi all Just thought I'd do a quick review here of some documents I have here Death Certificate of Susan Ludington Age 93 years, 5 months and 4 days Birthplace: Pawling NY Fathers Name and Birthplace: John Salmon Mothers Name: Blank There is no place on the document asking who filled out the information. When Rich showed me the photo of Susan Luddington that he shared with the list her name was marked Susan Birdsell.  This really confused us as we all have seen the mistake Ferris, but I think in family search.org I tried this and came up with a Susan Birdsell Daughter of John Salmon 1754 and Margared Polly Birdsell 1765 (Orange County) died 1838.  I am not sure if we mentioned this or not as we did not think it would fill in any of the Luddington's puzzle but I do believe I did try Cornelia Birdsell to no avail that wea awhile ago maybe we could try again. I also have the Death Certificate of Howard T. Ludington The copy is very dark and hard to read and I have shared this information before but perhaps seeing it all together will jog somehting Looks like He died August in 1903 He was 81 years 3 months no days entered Place of death was Murray NY Male lived there 53 years Widowed Farmer Father is Thomas Ludington, Fathers birthplace says Connecticut than has a ? Mothers name is Cornelia Ludington birth place Conn Birthplace says New York and looks like Dutchess County Then I have a death certificate of Hannah Howes Female While Widow of Washington Howes dob 2/22/1825 Age: 95y 1 mon 7 days Birthplace Pawling NY Father: Joseph Ludington Fathers birthplace: New York Maiden name of mother:  Susan Ferris, Birth Place Mother:  Pawling NY Filled out but William (can't read) looks like Baking maybe And then I went to Holley NY once to speak with one of the descendants of Thomas and I got a genealogy that I did share on roots web at one point but can not put my fingers on at the moment, perhaps it is in the archive so I gathers some of the conflicting information here is that children were not supposed to inquire things about elders.  I am not sure how everybody makes the mistake that Susan Salmon's name is Ferris as Ferris is the name of her sisters spouse but perhaps it is because they lived together once and her sisters was listed as the head of the household.  hope this helps AS a PS that family search.org file said John salmon was the son of John and Jerusha and was quite extensive with how far it went back and that Margaret Polly Birdsell was the daughter of Benjamin Birdsell and Mary Tooker both born about 1740 I have not found anyting further but I do see mention of a Benjamin Birdsell in Quaker hill, Pawling that is a possible fit, just can not put them there especially becasue we have Margaret born in Orange.... 3. Hi all Just thought I'd do a quick review here of some documents I have here Death Certificate of Susan Ludington Age 93 years, 5 months and 4 days Birthplace: Pawling NY Fathers Name and Birthplace: John Salmon Mothers Name: Blank There is no place on the document asking who filled out the information. 3. Hi, I created a memorial for Thomas Howard Ludington on Find a Grave with the info we have. Have requested a photo from Find a Grave volunteers within the area near Hillside in Holley, and will hope that we have some luck. Rich Singleton

Howard Jerome Lud was the father of another Howard Jerome and son and grandson of Luds by the same monicker. Thomas Howard Lud m Sally Ann Corbin and they moved up to Orleons co NY from Dutchess abt 1854. He appears in the 1855 NY State census, Orleans Co, Murry,as Ludington, Howard, age 28, b Dutchess NY Farmer Sally Ann (Corbin) age 25, b Penna. Anna, age 7, b Dutchess John age 6 b Dutchess Edward, age 4 b Orleans Sarah age 2 b Orleans Ella C. age 1 b Orleans His gravestone says: LUDINGTON, T. HOWARD, MAR 1822,AUG 22, 1903,MURRAY, NY'FATHER', HUS OF SALLY C., SON OF THOMAS LUDINGTON & CORNELIA SO DIV 36 I have never been able to solve that riddle about who Cornelia is. Thos H appears in many NY and US census reports and his wife is always listed as Sally or Sally ann. Thomas Joseph (or vice versa) was his father and Susan Salmon the mother. In some census reports he says he was b in CT and his kids often gave that answer about their father's birthplace too. We do know that Pawling NY is very close to the CT border. Other Pawling Luds married Corbins. I would love to see a picture of the stone for Thomas Howard Ludington of Murray buried near Holley, NY. The one that says he is a son of Thomas Ludington and Cornelia. Does anyone know specifically what cemetery he is buried in, perhaps it is Hillside, since descendant listed above is there. Ron, did we ever pin down whether this individual is the same as the son of Joseph Ludington and Susan Salmon Ludington in Pawling? I know there were some date discrepencies as well as the "Cornelia" spouse and whether Joseph ever went by Joseph Thomas or Thomas Joseph Ludington. Since I can't find him on the list of Ludingtons buried in Orleans County, I could post a photo request on Find a Grave, hopefully someone in that area would take a picture.
