Wellcome Mary!! Nope I think Elaine is correct and I think this Comfort ( b 1741 d 1805) may well have been the father of Joseph In 1790 Comfort appears with more boys in the correct age group than we know of, and Joseph is probably one of them. Joseph appears in Dutchess NY in several census in the 1800's with another Comfort, probably a brother of his. I just wish Dutchess would get that new historian to work and let us get at the records. Thanks Ron for putting that in writing is it my suspicion as well. Logical I guess. But proof would be nice. Thank you all for being so welcoming. It is my belief if we share what we know then we chip away at what we don't know. I have more stuff to share (nothing special) and as I get time I will let you know what I have. Mostly things I've copied from books. Off for the day. There is a Joseph who is disconnected, just as my Lafayette is...his parents have not been confirmed but based upon what Mary has said, I think the parents might be Comfort and Elizabeth Nickerson. I don't think there is anyone on the list who is descended from this Joseph. I did send Mary a link to the posting I did on the various Comforts. Elaine

It is just that the name Comfort has been a puzzle to many of us and I was concerned that the letters "J.R." after the Comfort you mentioned might not be understood by some....please overlook my comment, I get hyper about Comfort. My Ludington brick wall had a son named Comfort and I think my brick wall is the son of the Comfort of the 1820 census. In addition, the Comfort of the 1820 has a son named Comfort which I believe is the brother to my brick wall. Put that together with the Comfort, the father of the 1820 Comfort, and you have 4 Comforts very closely connected. Mary, I won't bother the list with a repeat but I will forward to you the posting Dotting has mentioned with my outline of the Comforts. Elaine
MARY, OUR NEW MEMBER, LIVES IN SCOTTSDALE. HOW ABOUT THAT, MILDRED. MARY IS PLANNING A RESEARCH TRIP TO N.Y. THIS SUMMER. WHAT DID YOU DECIDE, RON, ON THE REUNION FOR NEXT FALL OR WHENEVER?? DOTTIE
I wanted to tell you that since the Ludington's were service men some clues could be found from their actual war records. I think Elisha, Brother to Henry, served and died in the Revolutionary War. If anyone has his birtdate. and state he was born and if you know where he served( volunteer, army,...) I'd pay to order that and then share it with you. For those interested go to https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline This site is hard to navigate, so if you are interested in finding war records contact me privately and I can walk you through. The good news is they only charge you if they find the record. They have Revolutionary war, Civil war, War of 1812 and the French Indian war records I was disappointed with The Revolutionary War Records but did find clues on the Civil War and War of 1812 Records. It is hit or Miss Hope this was helpful Mary
I TYPE IN CAPS BECAUSE OF MY EYES AND SOME CATARACTS, SO WE WILL UNDERSTAND. ELAINE CAN GIVE YOU A RUN DOWN ON COMFORTS AS THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT AND CONFUSING THINGS ON THIS LIST BUT WE ARE ALL TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ELAINE, YOU RECENTLY PUT A WONDERFUL EMAIL ON SORTING THEM OUT, AS YOU SEE IT, AND IT WAS MOST HELPFUL, AND I AGREE IT IS PROBABLY TRUE IF WE CAN EVER VERIFY IT. SO, LET'S HEAR IT FROM ELAINE AGAIN. WHO ON THIS LIST IS FROM JOSEPH? WHERE IN ARIZONA ARE YOU, MARY, AS MILDRED PALMER LIVES IN THE AREA TOO. DOTTIE

I believe this is the Comfort that was with Joseph and there is no "Comfort J.R." to the best of my knowledge. I think that is the Comfort that Ron intended. Ron, feel free to correct me if I am wrong in this instance. Elaine
Hi Elaine and thanks for the warm welcome. I am afraid your years of experience have me a bit confused. Can you help me sort out the Comforts you speak of. I assumed the Comfort on the 1820 Census was Comfort son of Comfort grandson to Elisha. Was I incorrect. Perhaps some of you can send me a genealogy report so that I could get an idea of the different lines that run down through the Ludington's (?) (p.s.. I have a bit of dyslexia as you will come to find when I type sometimes I can not see my errors, Please forgive the inconvenience this may cause) ----- Original Message ----- From: <Dek623@aol.com> To: <LUDDINGTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 7:56 AM Subject: Re: [LUDDINGTON] Joseph Ludington > > In a message dated 5/26/2006 10:43:00 A.M. Hello All, I am new to researching the Ludington's and have seen some of your notes dating back to 2000.! My connection is through Syrena Ludington. She married Zebulon Washburn. They are my gggg grand parents. He is what I know. Zebulon is the son of Samuel Washburn and Phebe Baker both buried Mt. Carmel Baptist Cemetery, Carmel New York. He was born in 1805. Syrena is the daughter of Joseph Ludington and Susan ? (Ferris or Salmon) She was born in 1814 and died March 5 06. The resided in Beekman. Both are buried at Pawling Cemetery RT 22 Pawling NY. (This is cared for by some local persons) Joseph was born in 1779 and Died Jan. 12th 1850. (I have a photo of his stone) He is buried at Pawling Cemetery near Syrena and Zebulon as well as other Washburn's and Ludington's. He married Susan and had 10 Children. He appears on the 1820-1840 Census for Pawling (note in 1820 Comfort J.R. is there as well) in 1850 Susan appears in his place. In 1880 Susan is with her son William. Ron Ludington kindly shared his decedent research with me. I am looking for from who he descends. Any one with information on Joseph please contact me. I have photos of the graves of William and Jane Nickerson, George B. and Joseph son of William and Jane. A little history. My name is Mary Inoue and I was born in raised in NY. 7 years ago I moved to AZ. Then I started working on my mothers family tree. I never had to leave the house. Everything I needed to find her family was right on the computer or ordered cheaply enough through the mail from the NYC Archives. While I breezed through that I decided to start my Fathers. The Washburn's have been a interesting group to research. There is quite a lot of information available. Though other researchers have done work on them I started from scratch. This involved spending a month in NY last summer. I love solving puzzles. I am glad I did. I uncovered a good deal of overlooked information. However we still can not link up who is the Father of A Zebulon born 1747. So I moved down the family tree. That is how I come about trying to find Joseph's family. Thanks so much and have a great day. Mary
I TRIED TO FORWARD HER REQUEST ALONG WITH HER INFORMATION BUT IT WAS REJECTED BY ROOTSWEB, SO SOMEWAY I DID NOT GET IT RIGHT. MARY CAN POST HER INFORMATION ANEW WHEN SHE IS ADDED TO THE LIST. SHE DOES COME THROUGH JOSEPH.
I HOPE THIS IS NOT A DUPLICATE; HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THE LAST ONE WAS REJECTED. ANYWAY, I WAS CONTACTED TODAY BY A MARY IN ARIZONA WHO IS SEARCHING FOR ANYTHING ON JOSEPH LUD FROM NY, WHICH IS HER LINE. I THINK SHE HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH RON BEFORE, BUT NOW WOULD LIKE TO BE ON THE LIST. SHE LIVES IN ARIZ BUT IS FROM NY. I TOLD HER KAREN AND MILDRED WERE OUT WEST ALSO, AND SHE WOULD LIKE TO POST AN INQUIRY AND READ OUR COMMUNICATIONS. I JUST KNOW HER AS MARY AT meinoue@cox.net Please let us know when she is officially on. Thanks for adding her. Dottie
