    1. Re: [LUDDINGTON] WILLS

    3. About wills. I have never been to FHC to look up probate records. I have collected last summer many wills from Putnam County. When you go the surrogate there they order a file and you can look at the file. (all original documents) Then you tell them what you want copied. I always copied the entire file. When you look up wills at LDS do you "get the whole file"? A will comes with the actual declaration page and then the Proving of the will. After the person dies the administrator has to take the will to the Surrogate Court and inform the next of kin. That usually tells you where the next of kin reside. In some cases wills are contested and testimony is taken. I have two such wills. Incredible information can be found there. People are sworn in and tell their relationship to the deceased. You can then get the names of their parents. I am wondering if FHC copies all that kind of stuff or just the declaration page. Hope this was helpful Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen Bush" <karenbush@cableone.net> To: <LUDDINGTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 01, 2006 11:16 PM Subject: RE: [LUDDINGTON] WILLS > Yes! 3. Yes! Most of the wills have been microfilmed. Look in the county and then under Probate -- they are the Surrogate films. You can also check and index here: http://www.sampubco.com/wills/ny/newyork.htm If you can't look yourself at a FHC, let me know... possibly, I could get my daughter to look as she is up in Utah. 2. Hello, Ed, I have just returned home after a few days away with the grandchildren to find that Rachel Bryan had very kindly forwarded a copy of the scan you sent the group to me. It is a great find and I appreciate your kindness (and Rachel's thoughtfulness) very much. Thanks, again, Elaine Kaufman

    2. Hi, Fred, Is it true that the Luddington site at Myfamily.com is closed? I have not been there quite a while because I was very busy with other Lud work but if it is and you do not want to start it again, I will be glad to do so. I maintain a site now for the Rood family and I have found it to be a great spot for dropping off items such as the newspaper articles I find and pictures, etc. It is the perfect solution to sending something to the entire group with one simple email for things such as the page Ed has to share. Just let me know, it only takes minutes to set it up. Thanks, Elaine (Sorry, I couldn't check it for myself as I don't remember my password.)
