Hi Folks: Just wanted to pass on a little information. When I had a passport issued in 1972, it read on page one inside the front cover " A Canadian Citizen is a British Subject". I called my daughter who has a recent passport to see if it still read the same and it just states the the "Bearer is a Canadian Citizen" I went to Wikipedia and looked up British Subject. It states the Commonwealth Act of 1947 was replaced by the Citizenship Act, which came into force 15 Feb 1977 -- Therefore, a Canadian was no longer listed as a "British Subject" but a "Commonwealth Citizen". In 1919 Canada joined the "League of Nations" in its own right, and in 1931 the "Statute of Westminister" confirmed that no act of the British parliament would extend to Canada without its consrnt. Hopes this helps ----- Original Message ----- From: "ron ludington" <ronlud@execulink.com> To: <LUDDINGTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 04, 2006 8:01 PM Subject: Re: [LUDDINGTON] (no subject) > They were considered to be British subjects right up to 1925 or so. They were considered to be British subjects right up to 1925 or so. Now we are just Canucks. Canada wanted her independace after WW 1 and insisted on it. So we did not have to have the Brits as our protectors any longer. ----- Original Message ----- From: <SugahDayz@aol.com> To: <LUDDINGTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 04, 2006 3:55 PM Subject: Re: [LUDDINGTON] (no subject) > Ron, Just a question. I have put your address on the "Accept List" so if you should want to send a message to us, you can, without being subbed to the list -- but to see what we are saying, you will have to check the Threaded archives. Good luck and keep in touch, Karen Bush hi can you please remove me from your mailing list thanks. as we will be away from our computers for 4 months or more and are trying to keep the traffic down to the bare minimum, again thanks. dani luddington

I guess it is. I just went up to the site and there was a message that all of our upgrades were gone and for $29.95 we could get the new upgrades????? With my volunteer work I am unable to maintain the site the way it should be maintained so if you would like to do it go ahead.. Speaking of newspapers.... not only are their the newspaper notifications, which now can be found in the digital newspapers, but I am seeing also monthly articles on the Surrogate's Court telling what wills are being probated, heirs listed, judicial settlements, etc. The trick, when searching online digital newspapers, is don't stop with the index, if you don't find the item. If you know an article is recurring, use the browse feature and look through the complete paper. For notice of probate, search the likely dates for the papers being published near the hometown. It takes a little extra time and it is worth it when you find what you need. In many cases you can get everything. You have to look in the catalog for the county and see what has been filmed. I do a lot in Allegany county and the Surrogate's Index, will books, administration books, guardian books, and will boxes have been all microfilmed. The will boxes have all the goodies that you are talking about. At around $5 per film, and 5 or 10 cents to copy a page, it is a lot cheaper than the $75 + to send for it from the county. But not all counties are that completely filmed. Yes, I got them and sent you a msg verifying. I don't know why this msg came up again. It may have something to do with the trouble aol has been having. Mildred
Hi, Mildred, I am a little confused. I did try to locate Carolyn but was unsuccessful. I have since sent the letters to you and you acknowledged them this morning. Isn't that correct? Thanks, Elaine
Could be! James Hansford mar Alice Banta. Their children were Clyde (1884-8/4/1953), Ira (12/10/1886-12/22/1906), Raymond (7/11/1889-2/11/1998), Alva (7/14/1894-7/28/1894), Glen (7/30/1896-1966) & Roy (1880-1950). Clyde mar. Nellie Reed. At the time of his death, he was living with his brother, Ray. I believe Glen was the grandfather (?) of Carolyn Fitzgerald in Florida. She would probably be interested in theletters. If not, I am. She is not on internet but send me your e-mail addr and I will send you her snail mail addr (I lost your msg while running tomy Mac to retrieve my records. Mildred
A preliminary search shows' no Winchell or Eldridge Sorry there Are some White's in the Cemetery. After I have a chance to look I'll tell you the names. Got a little busy just now but wanted to get back to you. Interesting last name you have there. Just go an e-mail from Dick Wicks looking for family (maiden name Weeks and Wicks is a variation of that) We were not connect as far as I can tell but there were Week's there in Dutchess as well.
